'Chirp' sound when starting with bad battery

Hi,
for the last few weeks Betty made a 'chirp' sound each time she was started (maybe she was a bit excited when finally started),
almost like a quick belt slip, very similar to what one hear on some anti-hijack devices when they are activated.
When the battery died I noticed the same sound each time I released the key after the engine pulled dead when trying to start.
Since the new battery this sound is gone, previously it happened on each start, hot or cold, but now gone.
Anybody have an idea what this could be ? seems it is/was related to the poor battery condition of the old battery, maybe to low voltage causing some electronics to re-set or some electrical device ??
