dear pajeroforum,
recently my car developed a habbit of dying at red lights and not running smoothly.
i spoke to a local service guy and he told me that its the fuel pump that is dying.
new ones are quite expensive.
has anybody experience with buying used ones or repairing them?
Haven't bought one for Pajero yet, but apart from probably being expensive, it is going to be PITA to replace it, for it might be in the fueltank, in which case it might be necessary to drop the tank first. Unless if there is porthole in the truck's floor immediately above the tank.
I am sure by now you are looking forward to the whole exercise.
I should have asked first: it's a petrol job, I presume?
And it could also be the fuel filter. Does it splutter under acceleration?

Hi,
It does sound like the uel pump could be the cause assuming you are driving a petrol Paj. If yes the fuel pump can be accessed when folding the 2nd row seats forward you will see a black metal cover with a few screws, remove that to get to the fuel pump cover. I would not do this on a full tank as you will lose a lot of petrol, only do that when the tank is as low as possible. There is a strainer on the bottom of the fuel pump, and of course check if there is any filter in line, on the Gen3 that is the only filter which is a little odd in my opinion. I had mine replaced with a Bosch unit and my uel consumption increased by 1.5l per 100 that I am still working on, which in hind sight I should have mayber rather gone for original, unless someone could could advise ther, it may be considered to stick to genuine parts.
Mitspro is pretty good as is Hattingh motors in Centurion.
Hope that helps
Cheers
David
