Hi, I have a Gen 3 Pajero 3.2 DiD '07 with R170 000km's on the clock. For the past year it has been strugeling to start. It turns over slowly and turns for a while before firing up. I also beleive it is very heavy on fuel as I get just over 500kms on a tank of 90 litres!! In this time the following has been done in an attempt to find the problem.
Replaced starter, replaced batery, checked fuel pick-up filter in tank, removed tracker (suposedly draining batery), replaced seals on injector pump. Since the injector pump was done it now realeses a plume of white smoke (unburned diesel) on start-up which it did not do before and all problems remain unchanged.

Have you perhaps any advise for me please. Desperate.

Not sure about the heavy fuel usage(search for 4epikinini's posts regarding his battles with his consumption on his Gen3 DiD), but the difficult starting could be a faulty earth strap from the battery to the to the engine or chassis.

Check the strap connections and lugs for corrosion or a bad connection/frayed wire. It could be that when you try to start the engine, the amp draw from the starter motor is too high for the earth strap causing the slow sarting speed...

PS. Have you checks your glow-plugs/glow plug timer relay for good operation??

Glowplugs wont cause ot to swing slowly. My glowplugs were finished but my pajero always started first time, everytime.

I reckon you have a dodgy connection or a failing battery. Follow all the big cables from the battery terminals and clean the contacts where they end (ie. take off clean with sand paper and put back)

Also clean the battery terminals themselves and the brass round contacts that go on it.
