Strange Noise from Air Vents

Hi all,

I have a 2006 SWB Auto 3.2 DiD PJ. I suddenly have a problem when stepping on the gas (on the open road or from pull away) where a loud blowing noise is coming through the left air vents of the aircon. It might even be from below the glove box but it seems to be predominantly from the vents.

I am not sure what this can be as the noise is absent at normal cruising speeds. As soon as you step on it the noise comes through rather loudly.

My limited knowledge is pointing to leaking manifold of some sort (although there is no loss of power) or my aircon that has run out of gas (you have to crank it quite a bit to get some cooling through). Don't know if the latter can have any influence.

The noise sounds similar to an airbox that's not sealed or open.

Any input?

Cheers

Shooting in the dark here but had something similar many years ago on a Colt bakkie. Also sounded like wind but turned out to be something totally different.

The inside wheelarch liner was loose and when pulling away rapidly it moved back just enough to catch the tyre. This made the noise. Dificult to see as you can't really walk next to the car when accelerating and it has not been doing it long enough to leave marks on the fender, but the dealership at the time obviously had a similar experience before and diagnosed it correctly after the test drive.

Maybe something to look at on yours as well?

Hi

This year coming back from Nam I had a similar issue - but only at higher speed and when across wind was blowing from the left hand side.

The wheelarch lining was shot and damaged and created that noice.

It took me a while to figure that one out....

I hope that you will find the above usefull

I would start by checking the filter contained in the blower unit under the passenger airbag (You have to remove the Cubby hole door by removing the slide and twist fasteners on the inside of cubby hole .... I have found that this gets so blocked by leaves and you have to set the blower higher than required... believ me it makes a huge difference for a small job Regards
