Jacques39,
Firstly: Welcome to the Pajero family
Secondly: Nobody on this forum is surprised to hear that you enjoy your Pajero and that it is reliable
The Pajero Sport can (to a certain extent) be considered a carry-on from the Gen2 Pajero. Sure it is bolted on to a Triton chassis, but it carries the Gen2 rear suspension and axle, which is mated to the real Pajero 4x4 system and matched to an early Pajero 4-speed autobox.
Your twin-cam motor is a real beaut, but does have a reputation for ticking valve lifters ("tappets"). The next generation V6 was the 3.5 fitted in the Gen3. They changed the valve-gear completely and ended up with a single cam per bank, but retained the 4 valves per cylinder. They claimed a torque curve better suited to a 4x4 vehicle - but I think they just tried to save money

.
In 2004 the 3.8V6 appeared in the Pajero and in 2007 they upped the game again and produced the 3.8MIVIC - which is a great motor. It is quiet and smooth and the max torque comes out at 2750rpm. The Kw rating is 186 - the first time they produced an engine with more horses than your engine.
Enjoy,
Roelf
