Temp sensor - Missing wire

Hi all,

I'm busy changing engines after my previously one popped.
My Pajero is an auto but the donor engine came off a manual box.

The Mac phoned me just now stating that my old engine had 2 temp sensors in the engine bay while the new engine only has one sensor.
So he now has one wire hanging loose.

Please let me know if anyone has an idea why there are a diffrence in the amount of sensors on the 2 engines which should be identical and where the extra wire should go.

Thanks
Pierre

Mitsu is known to have separate cooling sensors for

- temp gauge in the dash
- temp sensor for ECU (engine and/or gearbox)
- A/C system temp sensor (A/C cuts out if coolant is too hot)

So generally Mitsu engines have 2 sensors for manual and 3 sensors for Auto..... or is it 1 sensor for manual and 2 sensors for auto.

Not entirely sure and I don't own a pajero to check.

Stupid question Where is your old engine and why did your mac not do a comparison check You old sensor must stil be on the engine He obviously just rip every thing off without marking what goes where But i think that is water under the engine cowling
Try trace your steps back to the old engine or grt another friendly owner to open his pajero bonet

According to your info it looks like a 1999 petol it looks like I think one may be available at work Will look and take a pic

Hi, the old engine is still on the workshop floor and we took notes of everything. There is a difference between the 2 engines of the number of sensor but that seems to be OK. I'll just drill and tap the sensor for the old engine into the donor one. Should be ok.

Thanks
Pierre

Thanks a span you guys. It turned out that this issue and my other problem was related ("Kick down" post). My overdrive did not work and it seems like this sensor controls that.

So I earthed the extra wire and the O/D kicked in!! :)

I'll get the sensor drilled and tapped in tomorrow.

Thanks again
Pierre
