3.2 D.I.D engine in a gen.2?
Hi guys i am considering it to do a engine swap. I would like to put in the 3.2 D.I.D engine with management. Will it fit straight on the gearbox and what do i need to know before i start a project like this? And lastly how much will it cost me more or less? Thanks in advance.

if the gen2 is a 2.8 then the engine bolts right up if you use the 2.8 engine clutch and flywheel assembly.

I suspect engine mounts are identical.

Your main work will be boost pipes, coolant pipes, A/C, exhaust.

The biggest headache of them all will be electronics to get the engine running.

Get a donor engine from a manual with it's ignition barrel, key and ecu.

The oil, starter wiring and temp sensors can be directly transplanted. It's the engine ecu wiring that scares me but a competent sparky should be able to do it provided you give him the complete ignition wiring system with ecu etc. intact.

Budget on engine plus R25-R35k.

Thanks 4E yes so i guess i should start looking around for a donor then.

If you buy my Gen1,
  • You get a Di-D engine with less than 100k km on the engine
  • everything you need to do a swop. No hidden costs due to items to be bought / manufactured
  • 15" wheels with 33" AT tyres
  • Bilstein shocks
  • What's left of the Gen1 afterwards can be parted out to defray costs.

Thanks 4ePajero, but that would be a sin to do that. You did such a nice installation job there. Ye it could have worked for me if only i had the money right now. I recently bought the Pajero. I phoned a couple of scrap yards and they charge something like R35k for a engine. So i will have to carry on with the current engine. This is what i did so far.

Sorry about the post hijack... This thread is old, so rather see it as a resurrection!

We have a 2003 Gen3 with 3.2diD, NON-commonrail. THe engine ran into some trouble and after exhaustive searching, could not find a NON-commonrail engine. All we found was a 3.2diD commonrail motor from wrecked PAjero SPort, complete with main harness, computer box, ignition, pedal(fly-by-wire type) and extra sensors (assume air-mass / air temp sensors).

Right, so the engine install is bolt on - well, relatively. Minor modifications to engine mounts, minor pipe deivations etc...

Following advice, we are aware (or led to believe....??) that:
1. The original harness stays intact, except for engine wiring.
2. The new ECU will only take care of engine management, and will run simultaneously with original harness.
3. ingition will be set up that the turn of original key, will provide power to new ignition, ECU and to the starter, with orignal harness intact.
4. "display stuff" from the engine (REVS, speed, engine temp etc) need to be tapped in from the new harness....

At the moment, we are stuck without a wiring diagram of any sort for gen4/pajero sport harness, so do not know which of the 100's of wires/plugs do what. also do not have a wiring diagram of the gen3, so if we find what we are looking for from the gen4 wiring, do not know where it goes.....

Any help, advice, contact numbers, prayers or the like, will be much appreciated. Rewards also applies, monetary or otherwise.
