This is a tale of how vasbyt can get you through just about anything.

History:
New Pajero Sport bought in July 2010 - I'm a happy chappie.

While trying to impress my wife and her friend two days later, nearly lost it turning into a main road ,when the turbo lag got the better of me in the middle of the corner.... - I'm a happie chappie ( slightly more careful)

I do a trip to Durban from PE. - I'm a happy Chappy.

On return trip from Durban, I hit a kudu. It goes under the vehicle and she stands for 4 weeks while waiting for parts. - not a happy Chappy.

I get the vehicle back , and I take it on a trip to Brakkeduine. The Oom is constantly shouting at me that i must give it more gas.
I keep going off line , and don't get power down in the right spot. But even Ralph Clarke struggled with her, we put it to the nature of the auto box - not a happy Chappy

2011 : A year later, still slightly sad, I tow a heavy trailer. She struggles. I now begin regretting the auto box.... But I believe it was me just pushing too far. I mean, even Hannes Grobbler ( I think) rated it as the best towing vehicle in its class.... Must be me. -NOT a happy Chappy.

Late 2011 : Then the carbon build up in the inlet manifold manifests itself. Mistubishi dealer is not equipped to handle more than a filter change and thus make up fabulous stories about 500ppm diesel and fuel cleaner. Even claiming that the 50 ppm requirement is in the manual. They should have been the storywriters for "The Wild", maybe that would have saved the series.... As usual it's all my fault. - NOT A HAPPY CHAPPY.

Whole of 2012 and to date
FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT with Mitsubishi and dealer.
I tell them, there is something else wrong. They just keep on saying that there are no fault codes. So it must be alright...
I tried 50 ppm , 2SO , diesel cleaner , Delo 400 oil, SASOL diesle only, BP diesel only, Caltex, Shell.... The list goes on and on with all the things I tried. One seriously despondent Chappy.

March 2013
Busy with a job in Tsolo ( Transkei)
Have accommodation in Maclear, and traveling to site is 50km one way with 30km of mountain pass that Jeremy Clarkson would be proud of...
Pulling a 6 ft Venter with 150kg of tools .
Could not get over 80 km/h....
I tried everything , tip tropic, light acceleration, heavy acceleration ........
Thought the carbon build up was back, bought more diesel cleaner.
Upped the dose of 2SO
Stopped the 2SO

I was nearly in tears.
650km from home, and the feeling was that I was going to stand on the road.
I mean, what the $$$$?

Called Mitsubishi again, who had been ignoring my email plea for assistance with a competent dealer.
" oh , I see the mail.... How can I help? " he replies politely. ( aaaaarrrggghhh)
I repeat everything stated in the mail.
My airbag light had also come on, and the 'technician' looked VERY puzzled.
I also asked them to issue an official response on the '50ppm only' statement made by the dealer.
Their response is that I should take the vehicle to Ronnie's in East London, as they have 'some of the best technicians'. He will arrange with them and let me know.
He also claims that the carbon build up is a non issue. (??? Dealer says Mitsubishi IS aware)
Also says , "we have yet to encounter a problem that we could not resolve"

I think they go on a special course on how to sound helpful without actually achieving anything.
Because I am still waiting for a response. Chops.

I finish the job and make my way home a few days later, cursing the chops on every hill as I watch the speedo drop to 60 or 80 km/h on every hill.
- I feel useless, ripped off, disillusioned etc etc , cross chappie

Sunday night 24 March I send a nasty letter to Mitsubishi.
Monday , 25 March 2013 - 16:00 - no response from Mitsubishi.
I pick myself up and decide to deal with facts . Lets do dyno test.

Find a guy in the Yellow pages who has a dyno .
Explain my story of abandonment and we run a test..
73kW @ 3503 rpm
253Nm @ 1975 rpm

Disbelief

Again
72kW @ 3503 rpm
251Nm @ 1975 rpm

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????????????

Where the is my 120kW????????

We resolve it can only be the carbon build up.

Tuesday 26 March
Drop vehicle off, and decide that it will be in Emraan's hands.
Go out for the day with kids.

Get back at 16:00
Big smile on Emraan's face.

He just did a run,
115.9kW @ 3778rpm
330Nm @ 2000 rpm

Yaaaaaaaaaaaay!

Report back:
EGR Clogging was minimal

BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT

While checking all sensors, he found this little pipe, coming from the boost sensor take off point.( bottom)

Apparently too deep and hidden for a Mitsubishi "Technician" to stick his manicured hands.
Also, no diagnostics system would have picked this up, unless they had driven the vehicle with the MUT attached and seen that no changes were being registered by boost sensor.
Again, too mucking futch to expect...

One FLIPPEN HAPPY CHAPPY
I have to be careful of the power band again!

Morals of the story:
Dealers are in it for themselves, not for you.
And
'Jy moet meet om te weet'
And
If you are stupid, you suffer.
If you are VERY stupid, you make other people suffer.

If you stupid, you suffer.
If you VERY stupid, you make other people suffer.

Note the funny peak at 2500rpm

Thanks for sharing.

Shocking that you had to experience 2 years of disappointment to get to this resolution.

Shows the importance of taking matters into your own hands and not leaving in the hands of a disinterested 3rd party.

Welcome back! Its good to remove one owners from the (small) disillusioned column and add to the (much larger) happy column.

I suspect that is the pipe between turbo and wastegate and not the boost sensor pipe (which is longer? )

Sport motor quite different to what I see in the 4M41 workshop manual download.

My boost sensor has two rubber hoses and an intermediate steel tube.

The bottom one was torn.
You can just see the oil deposits on the fuel pressure sensor.

Fuel consumption sky high now.
Used to flooring it.....

So, my motor is nicely run in now, never used more that 66% throttle........
