Hi guys,
I sit with some sort of problem. I recently (about 12 000km ago) fitted new tyres - Coopers ST Maxx 265 75 16" - at the Dunlop Zone behind the Audi dealer near Menlyn. When they did the alignment, the technician complaint that he cannot adjust the wheels correct as the bolts & nuts are rusted. He broke two powerbars during the process. He also said that because of the larger tyres, the settings will never be correct because I need to lift the car.
I was not too concerned as I planned to fit EFS suspension anyway. Safari Silverlakes fitted the EFS, but I was in a rush and they did not do the alignment. They did sent the Pajero for alignment, but encountered the same problem - the bolts & nuts are rusted/stuck, and because I was in a rush they gave me the car, I said I will sort the alignment out later.
Last week I had time, and took the car back to the Dunlop Zone, for rotation, balancing and alignment.
Long story short, basically same happened. The bolts & nuts are stuck, as well as those off-centre washers which are the important pieces of this puzzle. The technician showed me that the car was rubberised on the chassis and this causes the washers to be stuck. He also showed me that the bolts & nuts are rusted/stuck with all the dirt and grime (it is a 2001 model car). He also mentioned that the settings will not be correct, even if the washers and so are working properly, because the car needs to be lifted slightly in order to accommodate the larger tyres.
Now, I don't believe/agree about the last part above. But I do know that I need to sort the alignment out ASAP. It is set now, but barely in the "green" zone, through working around the problems and not fixing them.
So here I need the forum's assistance. Where can I take the car to replace/fix/sort out the problem? I am in Pretoria.
Thanks
Herman
wheel size doesn't make a difference to wheel alignment. It just statically raises the car.
As for stuck nuts, I took my touareg in for alignment today and the tierods were stuck so bad that we bent the spanner (and the next one)
They then brought out the acetylene torch, heated up the tie rod end while spraying the rubber boot end with water. Bang, and the tierod came loose like it was never tightened properly.
If you are not happy with the place, go somewhere else.

Go to Hi Q Datek. Speak to Corne .
I am sure they will be able to assist, and your wheel alignment will be right as he also drives a Pajero

Hi Ryperd
I also drive a 2001 Pajero and had the same problem. I first took it to HQ Krugersdorp but they also told me it is not possible because of the bigger tyres but Tiger Wheel & tyre where the best. They sprayed the bolts & nuts with penetrating oil and send me home. I returned the next day and they got it lose.
They suggested that I must remove those bolts and nuts clean and replace using copper slip.
Regards
