Rough sounding Pajero 3.2Did

During a recent visit to a game farm my Pajero 3.2Did manual developed a very rough engine between 1000rpm and 1200rpm when driving slowly in 2nd and 3rd without the engine labouring - almost like misfiring. Engine fine above and below the 1000 - 1200 rpm band. Water temperature is normal. This only happens after approx 5 minutes drive - not when engine is cold. I used 50ppm diesel. Engine has 258 000 km on clock and new injectors fitted at 220 000km.

Hi Daneel,

Was this perhaps just after refuelling?

Dirty diesel / wet diesel could present these symptoms.
A couple of us experienced it filling up at Satara in KNP last year - came right after next refuel elsewhere.

either speed sensor on the pump or it's sucking in air somewhere.

I only noticed it in the park when driving for a period at very low speeds in the rev band of 1000 - 1200 - not when accelerating. still happening after 3 refuels. vehicle currently in workshop. Will keep you posted

It's a manual, isn't it ?

Dual mass flywheel, I think.
I recently had the same, recongize the same symptoms.

I changed it, all together with the clutch, as I also had 240.000km. 3000 € :-(.

Please keep us informed.
A.

Same thing! Kruger Park Day 3 or 4 Rough idling and now power. Revved it hard and large clouds of black smoke came out the back. When I got out of the Kruger I drove it hard for about 5km’s Problem solved. Think it is related to carbon build up in the system. Maybe it is the cat converter not getting hot enough with the low speeds / revs and getting clogged?
