I've been struggling with mechanics in Tanzania to fix a high idle, then later stalling engine, on my 1999 3.5 GDI SWB. It's a long story, but I do have one specific question:
Despite the shop manuals clearly stating (in bold) to never adjust the fixed SAS - which I assume to be the Speed Adjustment Screw - on the throttle body since it is factory adjusted, that is exactly what these guys have done (in addition to fiddling with anything else they could find). This screw is the star screw with a locking nut on the underside of the throttle body. Is there a procedure for resetting this SAS to the factory setting, or is it a trial-and-error adjustment?
This may or may not be the root cause of the high idle and stalling (when put into reverse/drive), but I imagine it cannot help and would think it should at least be returned to the factory setting, if possible. Then can continue with other diagnostics/troubleshooting....
Grateful for any help!
Dear Keith,
You might want to call these guys-Mitsubishi Specialists: 0118947133 ask for John or Levi.
They have a good understanding of the GDI engine and will probably be able to answer your question. I have a 2001 GDI SWB -which they've taken good care of as and when needed.
My question to u Keith is, how readily available are body parts for the import Pajero's in TZ? My right taillight is broken and I haven't been able to get a replacement given the variation with the local light.
I hope John/Levi can help.
Regards,
Joe

Thanks, Joe. I will definitely give Joe/Levi a call. Where are they? Arusha or Dar?
I have not needed to source any body parts (yet) in TZ. I've been surprised at how difficult it's been to find used spares, especially given all the Pajeros you see around here (and stranded in workshop graveyards). Sorry, but I unfortunately don't have any advice for you on the tail light. Diamond Motors in Dar might be able to order one, but it would take ages for delivery I suspect. I had an awful experience with them and so make that suggestion with extreme caution!
Thanks again for the tip.

They are in Johannesburg, but I hope they are give u appropriate direction telephonically given their understanding of the GDI engine.
Thanks - that would explain why the number looked odd to me....
