Hi Guys. I noticed a oil leak on the right hand side of the engine standing in front of it. Not sure what it could be but
would appreciate some help or info on the matter.
Engine has high kms on it (326 000) Any ideas would be of great help. I took some pics and attached so as to pin point the problem. There seems to be a leak at the intake if I'm not mistaken and then also on one of the injectors, which is the one I'm most worried about!...Another pic shows a plug that is not plugged in, not sure if that has to be like that or not... Also took a pic while I was driving as it looked like the temp gauge was running cold?
Any info will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks guys!!
Well Peertjies I can tell you that your temperature gauge on the photo shows absolutely the normal level for these cars.
As for the oil leak: Did you perhaps have the car serviced recently? It happens so often that garages spill oil when refilling and then not clean it off properly. Wouldn't that be a nice solution to the problem?

Car was serviced 2 months ago...lol...it would indeed be a nice solution!
I have cleaned it today and will keep an eye on things to see what happens. I also assume that it could be a fuel leakage as well and not oil as I anticipated.
Thank you very much for your feedback Bigwill!!

Hi Peertjies. I also struggled with a oil leak on my 2004 DiD. The firts diagnoses by a mechanic is that the oil filter was nos fastened properly. It was due for service so the oil filter was replaced and I confirmed that it is firmly in place.
This was not the problem as it still leaked oil. I took it to various different mechanics and each giving their diagnosis and fix. None solve the problem.
Then finally I took it again to different place. And the guy diagnosed it correctly and fixed it. The sensor that screw on to monitor the car oil level. And switches the oil light on when you low on oil was the culprit. It was fastnedded properly but the sensor itself had a small gap between the screw part and the inner black plastic part. Sorry do not have a photo now.
Anyway. This sensor was replaced and since then the oil leak is something of the past.

Hi guys
Clean the engine and keep an eye on the leak. It could also be the tappet cover gasket, and believe it or not, it could also be the rubber seals under the bolts that hold the tappet cover down. They deteriate over time and leak from the top, which looks like the tappet cover gasket.
I will be renewing mine soon due to a similar leak. The 8 seals cost about R250 for all.
Good luck.

Btw: I also have the spare/extra plug.

Thanks for all the info guys! I have cleaned the mess and I'm keeping an eye on it for now. I'm leaning more towards an oil leak than an oil leak considering where the leaks are.
I also think it might be a good idea to take it to Mitspro in Centurion and just do a routine check on the vehicle to see if there might be any major problems to worry about. I hear they quite good and they not that expensive.
Thanks again for all the info!!

Hi Peertjies,
1. If you don't know the service history it is a good idea to replace the oil pressure sender. They do fail (leak) and thereafter can catastrophically fail (dump all the oil on road). You only discover that after the engine blows.
2. However, the oil pressure sender is on the opposite side of the block to where you indicate a leak. If it is an oil leak then I think your most likely candidates are the tappet cover bolt rubbers, the tappet cover gasket or the oil seals that seal the entry points of the injector pipes through the head.
Has anyone recently replaced / checked your injectors or reset your valve clearances perhaps?
Good luck in finding and resolving this.

Thanks Andrew. I know the injectors was done about 40 000kms ago... I'm definitely getting the pressure sensor replaced this Wednesday! Can't afford any ill mishaps on my way to Namibia.
Hoping to get the problem solved by then. Will keep you guys in the loop of whatever is happening!

That was exactly what caused my leak. The oil Pressure Sender. It is amazing how much oil came through the little crack in it. I suppose there is a lot of pressure.
