RG Motorsport conversion

Has anyone had any experience with the modification of the computer chip on the 3.2 DiD Pajero GLS? I have heard that there is a 20% increase in power, and a 15% decrease in consumption if you drive carefully. The conversion includes a change in air filter, and exhaust system. Any advice from the experts?

Chipping a vehicle is always controversial. My opinion is that it is safe to do so, as long as you don't drive like a cowboy and/or tow heavy loads often. Which kinda makes nonsense of why you are modifying for extra oomph in the first place

I have no knowledge of the RGM "conversion",but RGM is a reputable company that you can largely trust. They will utilise the unichip (I think

), and tune your chorrie on their rollers according to your needs - so it does not get much better than that. The exhaust and filter change is probably to balance out the extra fueling with extra air (although I am NO expert) and to keep the egt's in check....but rather speak to their techies and ask them for their honest opinions.

Shortly after purchasing a second hand 3.2 DiD GLS, I posted a query about modifying the engine chip. I had only one reply on the forum, so I decided to investigate further.
Steven Green from RG Motorsport assured me that the chip could be removed at any time by simply unplugging the unit, and that the vehicle would then revert to it's original settings. He also assured me that all they would be doing is optimizing the performance of my new off roader.
So I went ahead and invested in a stage two conversion. New air filter, new exhaust, and the chip.
After less than a week we set off on our Southern Africa tour. 3 weeks through Botswana, Zimbabwe and Namibia. With 5 adults in the Pajero, and a fully loaded 6ft trailer pulling behind, I wasn't expecting much from a fuel consumption point of view.
Boy, was I pleasantly surprised! At this stage I must also mention that I'm running slightly larger tires, so there's zero under read in any of the instrumentation. When the speedo is reading 120km/h, the GPS confirm 100%.
With the cruise control set at 115km/h, we set off for Martin's Drift. Along the way I kept flicking across to check consumption, and by the time we got to the border, the 4 hour fuel average was 9.8/100km! Not only was the Pajero running as sweetly as could be, but the acceleration seemed to be a lot better.
All I can say is ... what a worthwhile investment.
Love my Pajero ... and even more so with it's extra power!

Hi,
What did Green take out of your wallet? I have also been looking very closely at this topic and the cheapest i could find was a German Manufacturer "Road Rage"I think for R 3k DIY.

Hi John
I have a Gen3 3.2 which has no fuel consumption display. What model diesel is yours that has a read-out ? I was under the impression that only the Petrols had this feature.
Thanks

My 2002 3200 Di-D was chipped @ just over 100 000km's and worked well untill the head gasket went at +-330 000. It feels more revvy and pulls better than the 2008. Not sure the "chip" and head gasket was related and after 230 000 km's not sure it matters!

Sorry John, I meant "RG Motorsport take out of your back pocket", not "Green". Green is another evil in my previous life that haunts me occasionally!

Hi Lock,
Yours would perform better as it has the older 132kw direct injection motor, whereas the 2008 has the common rail motor only good for 12okw in standard trim.
I originally had a 2.8 Colt bakkie that was converted to the 3.2 motor like yours and staged to produce 160kw and 500nm. Went like a bat outa hell but ran out of breath at 3000 rpm............

Morning all,
Anyone out there tried chipping using "Racechip" do it yourself kit?
Have a good day

I have a 2009 model 3.2DiD GLS. There is an on board computer that does fuel consumption, average speed, pressure, altitude, range etc.
