4M41 Fuel Pipes to Injector Pump--- workshop Manual 11B-12-1

Is there a mistake in the manual or is my car connected wrongly? what is shown as the return hose in the manual (No 10 on the diagram) is actually connected as the intake from the diesel filter on my car and what is shown as the fuel suction hose (No 12 on the diagram) appears to be the return as it by passes the diesel filter. 
is there something am missing. The pipes can not be interchanged as one is bigger than other!
Has anybody else picked this up or am i just being plain daft?? :
