Hi all
Disclaimer: I'm not mechanically inclined, so forgive me if this is a stupid quetion.....
The sound of my turbo is a lot louder when the engine is cold. Once I have driven for 5 minutes or so, it quiets down. Is this normal?

Jeremy Clarkson on turbos:
"A turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster."
As you can see from the above explanation turbos are very "complex" parts of the vehicle and as such should all be left alone to do their stuff until they stop doing their stuff with no questions asked in between

.
In all seriousness though I would not be worried too much about the sound when cold as the vehicle does tend to idle higher when cold to compensate and get it it operating temp as quickly as possible. The increased idle will in turn spin the turbo faster which would lead to a more pronounced, and loved by turbo lovers, whistle! Unless the noise is something new which was not there before I would just enjoy and drive. If still worried maybe join us on the next club outing and have a listen to some other Pajero's as comparison.

What oil does the sump contain?
I would immediately put the shorty on a diet of Caltex Delo400 Multigrade 15W40.
It's mother's milk for a Di-D.

I have a reconditioned turbo still in the packaging if you need it.
