Hi to everyone here. Me and the wife (SWAMBO) are first time 4x4 owners, we do not have a clue to what 4x4ing is apart from hopping on the pavements. We bought the vehicle in December and had to do a couple of service related things to it up to now that cost us a fortune, like fan belt & pulleys and cam belt & pulleys, the last we done was front wheel bearings and I almost fell off my chair when I got the quote on agent only front wheel bearings. Unfortunately the dealer that we bought it from did not get the service records on the vehicle and I took the chance in buying it like that, only to find out a month later through Mitsu SA that there is no service records on their system, only one thing comes up and that is something to do with the brake censors and it showed that the Paj had 254000 Km's on the clock in Sep 2010, I bought it with 191000 Km's on the odo. This is SWAMBO's every day transport and this being a Gen3 SWB 3.5 V6 means that we spend a lot on feul and now there is not much left for other maintenance, so we hope it lasts. Enough of that now.

Both me and the wife love this car even after it cost us extra, and I am sure I will be a Pajero man from now on.

Hi Charles, Welcome.

I thought that "turning back the clock" could only be done on the very old vehicles, but a friend of mine was interested in a Fortuner in Johannesburg as it only had 110 000 kms on the clock. Somehow he then picked up that the timing belt was replaced at 154 000 kms!! Needless to say he did not buy it, but it made me wonder how they did that and how one can be sure about the mileage?

Hi Gertkraker, thanx for the welcome.

It is easier to turn back a new cars clock than an old one as it gets done electronicaly, and the dash and clock does not need to get removed.

Service records from manufacturer according to me is the only way to be ALMOST sure.

On the other hand, the Pajero I bought did not look as if it had high mileage and was very well looked after.
