After having my dieselpump and starter motor redone and battery replaced last year the car was an easy 1st time starter. Out of the blue yesterday afternoon, I turned the key and all I got was lights on and a click, nothing else. Tried again and the same . Removed the key , locked and unlocked the car and turned the key and she started like nothing was wrong. Drove home and parked and started looking around my new toy (link to thread to be placed here soon  ). When I wanted to move the car its the same thing, just lights on and a click, nothing else. This is where I am stuck now.

All I did was, the day before I was measuring up to place my 2nd battery. I made template to check the size off the tray and did push against some off the wiring to see where I could fit it. After that she still started everytime with no problem.

Where do I start looking? Battery is fine, even tried another one. One thing I do notice is no click from the glowlpug relay on the passenger side.

How long was the car standing? If it stands for long periods it can have a sticky starter solenoid.

Other than that I would recommend checking out all the big cables that come from the battery - especially the grounds. Remove them one by one clean the cable end and bolting point thoroughly with a scourer of some sorts and re-tighten.

Just came back from the Auto Electrician, starter motor is kaput. I had it redone which I remembered as late last year but looking at the invoice it was in May last year. They replaced all the bushes and bearings. He reckons its a bearing that has seized, but only time will tell.

I find that hard to believe. When I stripped mine after 260'000km it couldn't find any signs of age other than the rust in the solenoid from standing a long time.

Have you got enough 12v knowledge to have it turn on the bench?

Well swallow this one. Got a phonecall saying my car is ready. Asked them what the damages are and the guy replied R85.50. I reckon this is not bad what was wrong. They cleaned the terminals he says.

NOW
The battery was replaced 1 month before the starter was reconned,
The battery place replaced the terminals for as mine not in such a good nick,
The 1st time tgese terminals were touced again, was when I tried a different battery.

I have this funny feeling I have just been had. Me thinks someone is not telling the truth.
