Fitting Import 3.5 V6

I have been a proud owner of a 1995 3.5 Pajero for a year now, and unfortunately due to a burst heater pipe, the cylinder heads have been wrecked. After various discussions with the mechanic as what can be done about it, we have resolved to put in a reconditioned import engine from Malaysia (I think). HAs anybody had experience with these engines and what must one look out for when sourcing these engines?

Welcome on forum
I have had quite a few dealings with Japan Auto for these import engines and my 3l running in my baby at the moment is one of the import units.
Up to now I have had 40k trouble free ks from this motor with the latest fuel consumption of 7.6km/l loaded.
As far as I know my engine comes from a front wheel drive diamante automatic as the compression ratio is higher than our standard one and we had to fit my original sides
As I have done in the past I pulled the heads and wasted my time once again as there was no sign of wear on the cylinders and we popped it straight in.
I have always taken the time to scrutinize the engine before I took it and look for things like excessive carbon on the plugs or oily exhaust ports another thing to do is to remove the plugs and turn the engine to feel for any rough spots. An engine from an automatic is less likely to have been hammered so if you get one with a flex plate rather than a flywheel it should be better.
If you find the engine seals are a bit hard simply run it with an oil designed for older engines for a couple of thousand ks and then drop in your normal oil. This should flush any grime and feed the seals making them soft again.
Just make sure you have the 3.5 engine and not the 3l as there are quite a few modifications to do if you want to upgrade, one of them is the management. The 3l has a 6g72 prefix and the 3.5 6g74

I have spoken to my mechanic and the engine has arrived. He is very impressed with the quality of the engine. He also informed me that that the engine came with the clutch plate attached, which is useful as I wanted him to potentially replace my existing clutch while he had the engine out. So the pajero should be back in action by the end of next week.
in response to the cost, the engine was sourced for R22K. Didn't really shop around, just wanted it fixed. This was similar to the cost of two new heads from the agents, hence the decision for a new engine. So now I will have a pajero body (which is in very good condition) with 220k on the clock and an engine with about 100K on clock.

do you have the old engine as spare now?
I would take the viscous fan if you have an extra. Make me a good price.....
