Diesel Torque chip
Has anybody installed a Diesel Torque chip on a 3.2 DID Pajero Sport?

Any feedback on performance change?

Re: Diesel Torque chip
Yep. Did it on my previous 2010 paj sport. The only setting I felt it made a difference on was the "3+1" setting, and it felt really great. Only problem.....after three weeks the engine warning light came on, and the agents said it was causing problems with the fuel pressure regulator :?: . Set it back down to "3", which was the neutral setting, and all was well with the fault codes. It made no difference to performance on this setting though and only gave a marginal difference in consumption :( . Sold the car with the chip plugged in. But this is just my experience, as many chaps have a lot of success with the dt chip.
Re: Diesel Torque chip
Ai, these generic chips darem....

To get more power from a turbo diesel you need more fuel. More fuel creates more heat. Too much heat and you cause more trouble than you can wish for.

Plus most of these plug-in chips comes from Europe where the altitude and temperature vary quite dramatically from the good 'ol RS of A.

Another worrying fact is that they can only do one output, if it increases the fuel with 7% at 1000rpm, it will be 7% more at 3500rpm. Now that is also not the ideal.

Now the question is: Is there anything like a safe chip???

Yes, and fortunately we have the locally manufactured Unichip available to us!

With the installation of your Unichip YOUR car gets dyno tune to ensure that the setup is ideal for YOUR car!

The EGT's are monitored and the fueling can be changed at any point in the rev range to suit it at that point.

They can manage quite a few parameters with a(n?) Unichip. Boost, injector timing, to name a few that I can remember.

One feature that stands out for me is a thingie that works via bluetooth from your phone where you have different map that you change on the go from your phone. One map can be a non-functioning map that prevents the car from starting - a nice anti-theft device! AFAIK this is an extra cost item.

On top of all that your get something like a 3 month unconditional warranty - if you are unhappy they will remove the chip and refund you 100%, no quibbling!

But, for a start I will get the CT removed and even a freeflow exhaust and if applicable, EGR blank, then a chip.

Happy hunting!

Re: Diesel Torque chip
Hi Guys

I Have just had a Kaufner chip installed on my 2007 3.2 LWB. I am not technical at all but reading the comments above ... i am wondering if this will cause any long term issues for the engine? So far i am really impressed with both power and consumption, but i am always weary that it may be too good to be true in the long run ....

Any comments? Is there anything i should be looking out for :? ?

Hi Folks
I like this topic
I always appreciate a comment from somebody who did some homework. Thabo, it seem to me that you have been there.
I am considering a chip om my 2007 Gen 4 LWB for a little more oemph during dune driving.
However, the question is the balance between "More Fuel for more power" VS relative good economy/Fuel consumption and NOT sacrificing reliability and engine life.
I read comments of increased torque from the standard 372 up to 440Nm. Is this achievable without eating a dent in your fuel consuption?
Who is the best around Pretoria/Johannesburg to do the job?
I am really interested in technical sound comments/advice and not emotional "feelings". Hardcore engineering works for me.

Re: Diesel Torque chip
Hi Kobus

As i mentioned in my previous post, i had a Kaufner chip installed. Power has increased noticeably, and my consumption droped from 11.2l/100km to 9.5l/100km.

Mine is also the 2007 LWB Gen 4 with about 233000km on the clock. I just cant answer the effect it has on engine reliability ... still waiting for anyone's thoughts on that ...

Re: Diesel Torque chip
I'm also in two minds about the chip.

I bought my pajero with a dastek chip. I didn't know about the chip until a few services later. I decided that I will remove the chip because I belive the ou ommies met hul dik brille en wit jassies know what they are doing. Did a few tanks without the chip and I couldn't get close to my original average. Before the pocsa trip I decided to reinstall the chip and see what happens. So far over the last 3 or so tanks I have a better consumption. I want to do another tank or so before I can give better feedback.

I never thought that a chip will give better performance and better consumption at the same time untill I had an interesting conversation with my dad and he said something that made some sense. Now he himself have never done a chip on any of our cats before so he's not biased. ... He just made sense and thus the reason for my experiment to reinstall the chip.
Re: Diesel Torque chip
Hi Kobus My two cent worth. I don't think the chip will make much difference in the dunes, as the Pajero already has enough low down grunt. It is on the open road getting there that you will notice the difference.

Re: Diesel Torque chip
No matter how much you have, you will always want more.

I took mine out of the touareg as reliability only gets appreciated when you lose it.

See another post about chip problems here. Imagine if it was an auto and it runs away at the limiter

Hi;

I'm trying to find out if anyone has had a similar problem. I had my Pajero chipped at SAC a couple of months ago. Recently the car would just start revving into the limiter after a short drive. I would switch off the car, and when starting it again after about 15 minutes it would just rev into the limiter? I had the injectors and diesel pump checked, motor and turbo is fine too. Took it back to SAC after driving it without the chip for more the 800km's without any problems. SAC put the chip back, tested and couldn't find any problem. I left their shop, drove 50 kilometers, parked the car. 45 minutes later when I started the car it started to rev into the limiter again. Took the chip out and the problem was gone. Repeated this a few times, and can 100% pin point the problem to the chip. Car is going back to SAC, but I am now really worried that I might damage the car. Any similar experiences out there? Or advice would be appreciated?
