I have a 2002 Gen 3 with 96000 km on the clock and am VERY happy with it. A friend of mine wants to sell his 2006 Gen 4 with about 55 000 km for about R 260 000. Both auto SWB. Question is: "How does the Gen 4 compares with the Gen3, which I know is good?"

They are very similar to each other. The main differences that I found between my 2001 GLS LWB(gen3) and the 2008 GLS LWB (gen4) that I used for e years was:
Xenon lights are wow.
Alluminium bonnet is as light as a feather compared to steel on older unit.
Traction control on Gen 4 works good but takes some time getting used to, I still prefer rear difflock.
The led lighting in the Gen 4 was magic once you get used to it.
The gen4 has 17 inch rims which is less ideal than 16 inch as found on early Gen3.
Definately a nice upgrade and the radio also makes a big difference

Did the Gen 4 not come out in 2008???

The key difference mechanically on the DID obviously is the Common-Rail diesel injection system on the engine. It makes for much smoother startup and less sensitive pedal action on takeoff. The torque curve also has a different shape.

The Gen 4 was released in SA in Jun/July 2007. Got mine (GLX) in Dec 2007 after trading a 2005 Gen 3 SWB with Traction Control which I hated (Traction Control) it can not perform like a plain diff lock in 4x4 scenarion!KaiV wrote:Did the Gen 4 not come out in 2008???
