17. Rate Your 4X4 & Overlanding Experience: 4x4 experience in colt was good, did at least 12 trips to Lesotho in which we drive donkey trails to reach some villages. In mud and snow I was good in colt. I knew the vehicle and had plenty time to learn on the farm.
Am now having to start to learn the auto box and use of traction control over diff locks. but expect me to be fairly good. (good being having sence to not damage vehicle in any obstacle I would attempt but not letting any other vehicle do an obstacle to prove myself or my car not capable of completing)

You got yourself a nice upgrade for what you use it for. Adding those upgrades should result in an overlander that should give you many happy miles - enjoy!

What are you doing with the plastic body mouldings - respray?
Judging by your profile, I would suggest you consider adding a rear difflock to that handsome upgrade list of your's.

A rear diff lock is not a bad idea and would make it much more capable... LIKE

I will post a bunch of photos of the trip to Lesotho when I get back for you guys. I am a little concerned as the pass has been closed from yesterday due to the road being washed away.

There were actually a few other upgrades I thought about since then but will just wait for cash to do each thing one at a time and adjust my list accordingly.

Agreed, as far as I can recall Traction Control was only introduced late 2004 Still prefer the mechanical 4x4 option over TC!

Hey guys. Did a trip with paj the other day and wrll it performed great. Towed a trailer up sani pass and in lesotho a bit did some other fairly rough off roading and towed the trailer back down the pass again. The TC system is pretty good and did not give me any issues. I did find however that the paj seems to let a wheel become airborne quicker or easier than what my colt did. I might be mistaken though. The door seals etc are really impressive as did deep river crossings and not even a drop came inside and there was no evidence of dust either after the whole trip. Really impressive as my colt would have had lots of dust inside.

The wheel in the air syndrome: the car has independant suspension on all four corners for safety and added comfort. The safety is two-fold as the suspension offers much improved road holding and corner stability over solid axle vehicles AND the layout allows for a unibody construction.

All of this translates into reduced suspension travel. The only way the motor industry can overcome this is to go pneumatic. Those are great, but they ALL need very costly maintenance after a few years. Also, a small electronic hick-up almost allways results in a dropped "safe mode" scenario.

Wow. Thanks RoelfeRoux for the info. I do really enjoy the paj. It is definitely more comfortable on and off road than my colt was.
I have recently just removed the cat and the main big silencer in the middle of the car. Has anyone else done this? I am not sure I am happy with the noise level increase but I am very happy with the response improvement from the turbo. It seems to spool quicker and in general the car seems more responsive. I cant comment on fuel consumption as have not done nearly enough km to see if any difference, esp as I have just recently got her
