My name is Willie Landman, me and my wonderful wife, Riana, moved to the WC from Ventersburg in the FS in 2011.
We are actually Afrikaans ex-maize farmers that fell in love with the beautiful Westcoast and it's awesome people!
We live, work and operate from our home, here in Grotto Bay, a small private nature reserve, I guess most of you know about.
I loved my "plat karre" for all my life but then living here, with all this awesome mountain roads etc, urged us to look into some kind of 4x4.
I almost bought a 110 Defender, which was fully kitted out, double bed in the back etc but then my good friend Theuns from Pta kept on reprimanding me, hehe (guess why?)....anyway then he directed me towards a Pajero and so my mind was started shifting...
We so love the 2008+ DiD but it is still a bit far above our budget. Almost bought a 2000 Gen 3 with a broken diesel pump...until i found out what that will cost to fix.
Then this 1999 3.0L shorty came my way for a good price. By then my mind had already started changing from my much loved diesel cars to petrol, taking cost of ownership and all into consideration.
Currently our "Muis Mobiel" (named after Riana's nickname) is our only car, well, our kids left home and for us 2 this Shorty is all we need, commuting, travel, work and play, since luckily we only drive about 500-1000km per month with it.
My 1st tank gave me 7,5km/l avg, both town and open road driving at 100/110 max on open road.
Well, I am happy, I was fearing the 6-6.5 figure but at this speed, 7-7,5 seems a very possible figure.
We used in in some very thick sand here in GB and I am surprised at how it handled it, almost like a spinnekop running over the sand!
We will be going to the deep sand here in Bokbaai soon and also Atlantis is calling!
Well, that's for now, nice to be part of this forum.
If you want to drop in and see the beautiful Grotto Bay, just drop me a PM!
Many blessings and lovely riding to you all!
See you here!

Willie
