2001 3.2 DiD acting strange

Howzit

So my Pj is acting very strange, whilst driving on the highway she cuts out and then I stop and start and carry on, at low revs she runs ok, but then feels like the timing is out the rev counter jumps up and down. While idling also misses and splutters. Sending it in to Pj for diagnostics on Wednesday, the guy there said its prob not the diesel pump, cause that's what im worried about the most, he says its possible air is getting in somewhere if the primer on the filter loses pressure and could even just be the filter itself if i didn't use a original Mitsubishi filter.

I just dunno, feels like its allot of possibility's. Does anyone have advice on how to eliminate a few possibility's, some checks I can perform.
or is taking it for the diagnostics the correct first procedure ?

Do the DIY fault code check with the dashlights and see if a fault code is registered. That should point you in some sort of a direction.

Hello Desmond, sorry to read of your problbem. It is similar to mine and that of Mackyg. Having just sent him a reply, I repeat it here:

From Entabeni with 2006 Gen3 Pajero 3.2 DiD LWB GLS Auto.

My Pajero had the same symptoms as yours. The problem turned out to be a dented fuel tank which blocked off fuel access into the fuel pipe running from the fuel tank to the filter. I have described my investigations and the solution to the problem in posts over the last week or two with some photos.

It is easy to test for this. To check for fuel supply pipe blockage, I tried to blow and suck into the 12mm fuel pipe at the filter but found it to be completely blocked. Had it been sediment or other dirt on the seive on the pipe's input, then blowing would have cleared it temporarily. If blowing doesn't help, it suggests a dented tank as the cause. I hope this helps. Mine is now fixed.
