1996 GEN2 3500 V6 ENGINE MANAGMENT LIGHT COMES ON
Hi all.

Will apreciate any advice.

The above doesnt hapen often and is rather a intermitent fualt I expierience.

Some times whilst driving under normal conditions, between 2800rpm and 3000rpm, my Pajero's engine managment light comes on and the loss of power can be felt.

It almost sounds as if dhe misses, then it apears to cancel and normal operation resumes.

Sometimes it requires me to restart the Pajero then also the fualt is canceled.

Could this be a damaged coil pack that has a dry joint intermitently?

Regards
Richard
Re: 1996 GEN2 3500 V6 ENGINE MANAGMENT LIGHT COMES ON
Hi Abbott
You need to check the fault code. I had a similar problem on my 3.0 L 6g72 12 valve. When I switch on the engine management light goes off after a few seconds and stayed off when idling but when I rev'd the light would come on. So I connected my analogue multi tester or volt meter to my data link connector started up the engine - no indication of fault code but when I rev'd on came the engine light and I could read the fault code by the movement of the volt meter needle. Code 12 - Air Flow sensor. I replaced the MAF with a second hand one. Engine light did not come on again but idling after rev-ing to 2500RPM was very low about 200RPM. Took out ISC (idler valve) and cleaned the plunger part and the motor of the ISC with Electrokleen. Everything fine now.
Refer to the post of Sarel re: OBD II fault code reader for the simple diagnostic tests. Car magazine RSA Pajer0 fault code testing attached.
