Hi Guys
I need help please !! A friend has a colt 2.8 TDI that has cold start issues. It struggles to start and then cuts out, spluttering and smoked like crazy. We have replaced the glow plugs which were damaged.
Please see the attached pictures. Yesterday, I saw clean diesel coming out of the top of the pump.
Any advise would be appreciated.
it is the diesel pump input shaft seal.
If it can let air in, it can let diesel into the sump. A 12v pump is a redneck fix. It can cost you your life if you have a runaway engine from diesel dilution in the engine oil.
Take the pump off, have the seal replaced. Make sure they put the seal slightly offset to where the old one was running.
PS : regular oil changes and the use of 2SO greatly extends the life of that seal, but it can NOT fix it once it leaks.
