Pajero Sport Injectors

Hi All

My 2010 PajeroSport (130 000km) recently developed a "surge" under acceleration - revs going up & down. Diagnostics could not determine the cause, but after service and new filters it has now stopped. Problem is, guy who services my car (not the dealership!)suspects diesel injectors and would likely have to be replaced soon (the injectors, not him!). Quote from dealers is R15000 per injector. If it turns out to be the problem, do I have any other options (generic or reconditioning?) rather than a R60000 bill?
Thanks
Chris

From what you describe I do believe that this is more likely the infamous Suction Control Valve problem (see Aussie comments also). Injector problems do not generally cause surging but faulty SCV do. The replacement of the SCV would be about R2500 to R5500 depending on who does it. Get someone to diagnose the problem / another opinion.

I spent five minutes on the Net and found new injectors for £204 in the UK. At R21.3 to the Pound, that comes to R4,345.20 per injector.

Somebody is going to make a lot of money off you.

Try 2 stroke oil or injector cleaner before replacing.

You do not mention which engine you have but on common rail motors you can test the injectors via the ECU / without removing them with a diagnostic tool. I would also expect injectors to last longer than 130k km. Also you do not mention any signs of smoking which is normally the first signs of injector problems.

Also had similar symptoms last year with the pajero 2002 220000km. 6 tanks with 1 bottle injector cleaner with each tank and it was gone

Surely "surging" isn't an injector symptom. If clean filters solved the problem, then that is it.

Thanks for the responses! Will definitely do some more homework. Must say, I was a bit skeptical about the injector diagnosis, as I have not noticed any smoke at all.

Hi

My Sport was sold a while back, but I can tell you this:

ONLY use 50ppm diesel
My vehicle only wanted Caltex or Shell. Maybe BP. Engen was a no no.
Bought a few 250ml bottles of 2 stroke oil, added one at each fill up.(brand wasn't important as far I could tell)

My solution for your current issue. ( this attempt will not cost the earth)
500ml 2 stroke oil on a full tank , try to add before filling, maybe.
Drive the vehicle for at least 100km.
Tiptronic it in lower gear to keep her above 2500rpm to keep the heat going.
Fuel line cleaner is not a long term thing, only once when you have the symptoms.

Good luck!

HI,

Seem to have the same issue.

CEL came on after a 4x4 day. Think limp mode came on (seemed like the vehicle was gearing up at 2200rpm exactly, and in 4th could only get revs up to 2200rpm). Took vehicle to Steve's Auto CLinic in Milnerton and they diagnosed the CEL issue as a faulty SCV. Had that replaced at R6800 for the part (apparently a common part to fail on Pajerosports).

Just picked up the vehicle and as I was accelerating onto the highway (so happy to have my baby back) the surging started, at about 100kph. I eased off a little and things stabilised. I gave her another go, but a bit harder , but the revs just picked up and no feeling of acceleration. Accelerated slowly and could get up to 100kph (unfortunately had to turn off and traffic was heavy so couldn't try and increase my speed more).

Think I should check filters? Did the issue come back again?

I'll try the 2 stroke oil suggestion too.
