In need of a new Engine! 4M40T. Please help!

Hi all
I purchased a 96 Pajero 2.8 TDI about a month ago, got it for a good price and did some minor work to it. Unfortunately the engine has developed a small knock and there is pressure in the sump which is apparently not good as well as a vibration on the engine. Was also told that one piston is not firing correctly, possibly blowby? With this unfortunate news, I have decided to replace my engine with a newer one and lower miles.
Please is there anyone that knows where to find a good engine at a good price as I dont have a huge budget but willing to spend for a good engine. I am located in Somerset West, Cape Town. I am new to the 4x4 community and any help will be much appreciated!

Keep in mind that another engine will mean registering it and that ia a painfull exercise. Also get the engine out, strip it down and get an engineering works to quote you. You can then do the maths and decide for yourself. Remember 2nd hand engines only have a "start up guarantee" whereas a recon by an engineering works will have at least 6 months.
Lastly if you need someone to check a 2nd hand engine out for you give me a shout once you have decided where and negotiated price etc.

If it is possible, rather re-build the existing engine, possibly with a new head.
You never know what you get with a second hand engine.

As with anything, check out what you get.
Engines and more gives more than a start up warranty. They also travel and hand pick the engines themselves.
I would go for an import over a rebuild any day.

Where are these guys Stranger?
In general I have always found these "guys" with a take or leave it attitude. Someone with some diplomacy would be great.

Their site states a start up guarantee on diesel engines and 3 month / 5000km on petrol, but yes an impressive looking site - will definitely be visiting them. Thanks for the info.
