Howzit Steve, AKA Plod and a very big welcome to the Pajero Club.
Simon is busy sorting the bugs out on our brand new website so it is a Iittle quiet at the moment (or maybe its the cold?) We are still feeling our way around the brand new website.
If I may ask what are your interests and what line of business were you in ?
I see like myself, you are also retired and also drive a Gen4 shorty. How do you find it ? and how to you does it compare to the Land Rover?
Peter.

Welcome Plod, many happy miles in your Shorty

Peter I suspect you are the guy who pointed me in this forums direction?
I hate to make a comparison between the shorty and the Disco. They are two vastly different beasts. I did about 130,000 km in the Disco and have only done about 1,000 in the Pajero. First impressions are:
I preferred the instrumentation layout of the Disco, more ergonomically designed or maybe I was just accustomed to the layout;
obviously there was a lot more space in the Disco, I am going to have to learn to pack all over again plus take only the essentials with;
the Pajero has a lot more power but is also a lot more thirsty;
the Disco had a much softer ride, but this was to be expected being a short wheelbase;
the Pajero seats are a lot more comfortable. I had a spinal fusion some years ago and found that the Disco lumbar support was wanting. The Pajero is excellent in this department;
The Pajero also has more road noise, but less engine noise than the Disco. It is shod with HT's which I will be changing shortly for AT's;
I prefer the Pajero steering, it has more "feel" to it.
That is about all that I have noticed for now. Still in the honeymoon stage so I suppose I will be more critical later. Leaving for a trip to Botswana in five weeks. We will see how it compares to the Disco in the sand.
Interests.
I enjoy my photography which keeps me out of trouble. I am a Canon fan but accept that there are many other brands with similar if not better qualities, I am not into bad mouthing other brands as I have seen exceptional photos taken with other brands and even with point and shoot cameras.
I am a bird watcher, but not a twitcher. Not an expert either as I sometimes take days to convince myself as to the correct identification of some birds.
In my youth I was an avid amateur herper. I no longer catch but do belong to a herper group just to keep my wits sharp.
My wife (ex teacher) and I enjoy visiting game parks which we do often, even if it is just a day trip. We both enjoy being out of town. We spent a few years in rural Nongoma and learnt to love the quiet life.
I have an off road trailer (XT 140) with a howling moon tent. We have used it to travel to Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe.
I am not the most sociable of people. I enjoy peace and quiet and try to find places to visit that are not child friendly. I wish more places would allow dogs and exclude children.
Heh heh. I bet that will get me a few comments.
Business. Nope, I was a not so civil servant for 39 years. Retired last year with the rank of Colonel. Many good memories, many bad.
That is about me.

Ah yes Mr Plod that be me. I was just curious as to the first impressions of the Pajero vs the LR. I had one but kept the jacket (very nice/ given to me by LR as a token of appreciation for services rendered!).
If you pick up a few rattles (no doubt you will - one of the characteristics - well it is better than oil on your driveway!) do keep in mind that Kurt and John are doing a first class job keeping us sane. On the point of tyres, keep in mind that the more type A/T the tyre, the noisier they tend to be.
On the fuel consumption issue, we are on a serious drive to sort out why. I believe that when we find the culprit the fuel consumption will improve and / or the performance. The Gen 4 is a bit lazy / heavier on fuel compared to 2000 to 2005 (Gen 3) models.
Like yourself we have an XT120 with Howling Moon tent. Just busy doing things to suit our needs. If you are passing through Pretoria please give us a call.

Mr Plod,
I know you prefer quiet (and so do the wife and I), but please consider joining the Pajero club for our annual Barberton adventure end of September. You will find all the dope in the "Social" section under "Organise an event"

Yes, come on Mr Plod
you are going to get the same treatment I got.
Bullied into joining a trip.
So glad I did, I actually made some friends, which is rare for me.
You could easily fit into the old grumpy section where we sit around and complain about kids and the lack of dogs and how we have created an electronic world where people can be anti social without actually ever being there.

Please advise who are Kurt and John and how to contact them - they seem to be the men I need to sort out dashboard rattles. Thanks guys!
Hi Plod, welcome to the club of the most envied!
I don't know about John, but Kurt goes by the name gerbek1 on this forum. He did the dash-fix on my 'Stallion' (2007 3.2 DID Gen 4 LWB, hi-mile club with >200000km) a few weeks ago and it is truly to be recommended! The difference is quite awesome! Kurt is in Lonehill which is a bit far from you, but if you contact him, he will put you in touch with whoever might be closer to you. Or have it done when you area visiting Jhb anyway. It only takes about an hour.
I haven't been on the Barberton 'Join-the-dots' yet either but am hoping to be there this year. Always great to meet fellow enthusiasts, so join in and we'll be newbies together.
