2001 3.2 DID LWB GLS Engine replacement

Hi All
My 3.2 DID is coming up for its 500 000km and still going strong but engine is
obviously getting a bit noisy.would it be better to replace with a import or get this
one rebiuld.

Hello C. They do not overhaul great. Try to get an imported engine. Lots of owners will tell you it just is not running the same after it was overhauled. Regards Casper

Hi Thanks for the info.Have desided to go the import route and got a quote
from engines and more for +- R41000.00.Do not know if this is the going rate.

That is the going rate, if it is a good engine it will be the best way to go. You can sell your old engine's fuel pump to recover some of the costs. I overhauled my engine not once but a couple of times. I stopped adding the bills when it got to R80 000.

And it is just not the same.

I agree with CasperA. Rebuild they just don't come out the same again.
If you don't want to go the import engine route I would buy complete head, block, pistons from Mitsu and do a new engine build. Unfortunately they dont sell them complete. But last time I asked that was gonna cost R90000 without even fitment and assembly. And then you still sit with your diesel pump which would also need a rebuild at some stage.
Import is probably your best bet.

Colin,
My little stream: Whether you replace/overhaul the engine, you will still have a 15 year old vehicle with lots of km behind it. The engine will be "new" but the rest of the mechanical parts will still have 500 000 km wear and will need some repair in the future. Is it worth it? I know one gets attached to a car BUT wear costs money and loyalty can (will) be expensive.
