Engine required

Hello all
I was unfortunate that I ceased my Pajero motor in late December. In short, air intake feather dropped into valve and piston and conrods etc damaged! Complete engine overall required or good second hand motor...
I have the 3.8l LWB GLS petrol. 240000km on clock, 2006 model.
My dilemma...
1. Where do I get a motor, ?
2. What's it going to cost?
3 should I try an sell as is, maybe someone will give me a good offer and do engine themself?
4. Or fix engine and sell

Any advice welcome

Best bet is call Martin, zero83 5seven4 oooo. He's in pretoria, but your best bet for parts.

You are looking at about 20k for the motor and I guess a service(oil, timing belt, plugs etc) would be another 2-3k.
Depending on what needs replacing you could just buy the parts, might be cheaper but do rings, bearings at the same time.

It's a costly exercise, my 3.5 was about 15k for the fix, overall and service(all done myself). Second hand would be about 18k and service about 3k, so the fix was cheaper but I had no major problems(replaced only a cam and few rockers).

Hope that helps.

I had a 2004 3.8 engine which i had to replace with a new one due to broken butterflies. I now have a complete sub-assembly, without the throttle box, and injectors, plug cables, etc. for sale. I'm from Namibia. Contact no. +264 81 845 4540. Or mail me at chris@burmeister.com.na for photos.

Thanx

Chris

Hi All
Just bought a 2005 3.8 Petrol Paj. with 280000 kms on the clock. I've just read this post and am worried that this could happen to me. How does one go about checking to see if it can be prevented. Also I'm very particular with services especially when the cam belt needs to be replaced. This vehicle was serviced by mitsubishi at 270 000 but the cambelt was not replaced. I know one can't be exactly sure when they will break but has anyone not replaced the belt at the required mileage. What I am trying yo establish is if there any leeway I can take some comfort in - 15000 kms or so. I am driving home tomorrow +- 1500 kms and just hope nothing happens along the way. My blister 3.0 l gls had to have its belt changed every 100000 kms and when I bought it with 106000 kms the service had not been done so it was replaced at this mileage. Any comments will be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Mark,

I'd go for a Japanese import motor. They are usually under 100.000km, and come with a warranty.
A rebuild might just give you endless headaches.

@littleman
In order to check the butterfly assembly, you need to remove the intake manifold. Check for loose bushes; if loose, have new ones machined out of brass or even nylon; and check also for loose screws. These could drop in the intake, followed by the actual butterfly if both screws fall off.
Regarding the timing belt, I'd change it as soon as possible as you don't know when it was last changed. It's not that expensive, and a lot cheaper than an engine rebuild if it ended up breaking. Remember that the timing belt change is based on mileage AND time, which ever comes first.

Good luck,
Fab.

Hi.

I just had the same thing happen to my Pajero. I have tried everywhere, but have had little luck.
It is a 6G75 engine.

Where can I find out about a Japanese imported engine.
