just a question, I have a 2006 3.2DiD GLX and only 142000km on the clock
is it normal for diesel pump to breakdown on so low km?
I was in Namibia and was towing Echo Chobe when it happened. Lost of engine power , engine light come on and engine idling was very uneven.
thanks

Hi My 2005 3.2 did just reached 390000 km. It's normally bad Diesel that can cause a pump failure. I always make sure that the garage I use looks OK and that it looks busy. Dont want to use Diesel that was standing to long.At home I always use the same gerage to fill up. I also use 2S oil with every tank ,also take extra on trips because I can't always find the correct oil. I would say based on the researh (reading on forums) 140 000 km pump failure is not the norm. Just my appinion.

Second that - seems very early in comparison to most.

Just had a similar failure with my 2006 DiD at 230000kn. Nobody services these pumps in Kenya so I took it out pulled it apart to see what is wrong, found the following:

1) The shutoff solenoid spring had broken up into small pieces and was jamming the solenoid, some of the bits of spring disappeared into the pump.

2) Decided that the bits inside would only add to the problems so carried on pulling it apart. Found that the inside of the pump was perfect EXCEPT that the shaft bushes were badly PITTED and the front seal not good.

Bad news is that no spares can be found anywhere.

Hi Guys,

My brother has a 2006 Gen 3 DID which has now apparently had the diesel pump fail. this pump was repaired by Alan Black not 2 years ago.
But the explanation of the failure does not sound like pump failure. He says the Paj cut out, no jerky feeling or even idling. It would not start at all.
He is based in Port Shepstone. How does one get hold of Hayden in Pinetown?

Thanks and cheers

Henri

Have you done the error code diagnosis as per this post: https://www.pajeroclub.co.za/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3193

That is where I would start before making the decision that it is the (stupidly expensive) Diesel pump....
