I need help!! My 2005 3.2 DiD overheated and the engine was overhauled. Now, after three months, the engine idles perfectly but has no power. What can be the cause and how can I fix it?
Hi
I can only tell you what I would look at first...
Check all oils and fluids, see if anything strange is happening (had a diesel return banjo bolt over tightened and it was leaking diesel, making its way into sump, so my oil level kept rising and pressure was below optimal into injectors... after sorting that out, alot more power was on tap).
Make a note of any difficulty starting, or smoke, or stumbling or any other clues that might point to a certain area...
Its one of 3 areas, air, fuel or combustion...
Id make sure that its not being choked of air by pulling pipe off turbo and seeing if it spools up when revving... then make sure there are no blockages of air to throttle control butterfly valve just before the intake port... I found my valve getting stuck semi closed with major loss of power until eventually it was fully closed and would idle fine, but as soon as I revved, she would stumble. Simply pulled vacuum tubes and valve went back to normal operation then placed them back on (well technically its just always open now so need to replace solenoid).
Also check egr valve that its operating normally and not just dumping everything back into intake...its not meant to work on idle or full throttle...
Next I would check diesel filter and replace if needed, check diesel pressure and that its getting to injectors without problems.
After this, its compression testing, leak down tests and a whole slew of other tests that most of us will not be able to do as we don't have the tools needed... blow by on rings, valves leaking, valve guides worn... could be a whole list of wearing in engine...
Who did the overhaul? what did they do exactly?

Pity I don't know how to "like" posts, cause your reply is pretty comprehensive Claud Personal experience I would check the diesel pump.
