4M40T Cylinder Head

Hi everybody,
I am in need of some guidance. I have a 1998 Pajero (4M40T engine), it would appear that the head gasket has blown. Fortunately the oil is still clean but I suspect that the water pushed into one of the cylinders. My predicament I am faced with is; according to the workshop manual, the removal of the cylinder head is fairly basic. I have removed all the components bolting onto the head. I am not sure whether the timing chain needs to be removed completely or can I just remove the cam sprocket (still with the chain intact) from the camshaft to lift the head off the sub assy?
Thank you in advance.
