Sortware upgrade for more fuel economy?

Hi Guys
Looking to improve my 3.2l Diesel Gen 3 fuel consumption.
Was advised to upgrade software taking car from 121kw and 373nm to 151kw and 465nm... which would mean less throttle at same speeds thereby saving fuel (my logical reasoning)
My concern is reliability since in my younger years I discovered more power = more expensive repairs..
Can anyone pitch in with their experiences please?

Hi
I would love to know who advised you gains up to 151kw and 465nm?
I have a Gen 4 121Kw and would KILL to get those performance gains? I have been thinking about getting a Unichip fitted to give her the extra kick , but Arnold at Mitsi Tech said he could get me similar Unichip gains simply by re-mapping and Dyno tuning .... I am not totally convinced if this is 100% true and as both options work out to about R8000.00 its not something i want to do twice
Does anyone else have any opinions/experience on which options would actually be better or get the best results? Would appreciate some advice on this. I am really looking for more power even if it is at the expense of fuel efficiency, as i tow a caravan, and would prefer the extra power
Mike

The engine is mapped as economically as possible.
Your foot may be lighter on the throttle but due to the chip is injecting more fuel.
If you want to be more economical, drive more economical.
Double check that all these are good
Tyre pressures
alignment
services are done regularly with good oils and change diesel, oil and air filter EVERY service
drive sedately using minimal brakes.
anticipate drivers and robots so you can keep rolling
If I drive economically I can easily get below 10l/100km in the touareg in town or open road.
If I drive while agitated or in a hurry it goes up to over 12.
Economy comes from driving style. The engine from factory is already as economical as you can get it. Chipping will give more ultimate power but not economy. Making something move through air as friction or accelerating a mass takes energy. A chip allows you to spend that energy in the fuel faster, not more efficient.

Hi
Just my penny. I have to agree with Marius, it's all about our driving style which affects fuel economy.
My Pajero is fitted with a unichip to limit fuel consumption.
Personally I do not see the difference in power and fuel consumption.
However. My engine was recently in for a rebuilt, I need to cover about 1000km before I can have the engine remapped again.
Honestly speaking, "if you were referring to chip?" I dont think its really worth the money spent.
Hope this is of some help?
