V6 3.5 Petrol Fails to turn over

Hi All,
Some odd behaviour with my 1997 Evo V6 3.5 Petrol . The car sailed through the MOT on Monday. Ran fine on Tuesday.

Went to start it yesterday, turned ignition on, all the lights on and off as ususal but when key turned futher to start nothing happens.

Well there are a few clicks and the lights on the dash dim a bit but it doesnt turn over. Its like trying to start with the gearbox in Drive (Needs to be in Park).

I can release it from park and have moved the selector through all positions a few times but still the same. Its a new battery and we did jump it too.

I did notice after trying to turm over the 4x4 front wheel indicator was flashing. I checked the 4X4 selector and is engaged fine.

My thoughts

1) Electronics and it does not think its in Park

2) Starter Motor jammed/Burnt out? The dimming of the lights looks like its trying to do something.

I put in Neutral and the car rolled back ok but being auto cannot engage a gear to free up a benix or whatever.

Any Suggestions much appreciated

Gary

Turned out to be a bad solenoid on the starter. The ht lead insulation from the solenoid to motor had rubbed through and shorted out.
