Morning guys

I have joined the forum a few months ago while studying the Pajero 3.2 DiD as a possible replacement for a brave little Terios.

I used to do overlanding before I got married and my 2 boys are now almost at the age where we can venture off the beaten track. Previous vehicles I owned includes a Defender 300 TDi, Landcruiser 80 VX, Hilux SFA 2.2, Grand Vitara 2.4, Subaru Forester 2.5 and LC 80 GX 4.5, and LC Prado 4.0 VX.

A friend of mine only drives Pajeros for as long as I have known him, and his 2005 Gen 3 SWB is going to be in the market shortly. Freek at Mitspro showed me Pajeros with 600 000km, and up to 900 000km at his shop and I was deeply impressed.

The shorty has got more than 400 000 km on the clock, my friend owned it since new, full service history (last few 100 000 kms at Mitspro) and I am quite keen on it.

At this mileage, I will have to check out a few things carefully, if you have suggestions, I am all ears.

Thinking about:
Injectors and diesel pump
Timing chain ? and belts, waterpump? Oil pump?
Viscous fan and radiator
CV's and propshafts
and ...

The Gen 3 spares seem to be more readily available and cheaper than Gen 4 (see thread re gasket set and cylinder head on the 2012 Gen 4, also, Gen 4 rear wheel bearings only 1mm bigger OD than Gen 3 but three times the price...disks on Gen 4 also very expensive)

There seems to be general consensus too that the Gen 3 was marginally more powerful and economic than the early Gen 4. Ask CATS...

The only thing I would be weary of is the injection pump - they tend to need overall before 300 000km and cost R15-30k apparently. CV`s seem to last forever as long as the boots are in good condition -but might be worth it to have the CV`s repacked and new boots fitted (I can recommend Jurgen Zoller /Mega Cage in Silverton for that if you are in Pta area)

Hi I've got a mk 3 needed a sensor quoted 4990 plus vat. Found a Japanese site ordered for half the price. Also small water feed pipes. Which dealer said were no longer available. They only want to sell newer versions. See how long to get here any SARS Customs problems. Also did you get latest email mine never arrived up to now.

Once had diesel pump failure with LC 80 at Brandberg in Namibia, it was'nt fun at all to reach Gauteng again, not much could be done in Windhoek for me, lesson I will not forget.
