What would you do next? (Pajero MKIII 3.2 DiD stuck in Sierra Leone)

Hi all,

I'd appreciate some opinions on what to do next.

2004 Pajero MK III, DiD, 4m41 Automatic - bought this in Holland and drove through europe then Morocco and along West Coast of Africa to Freetown Sierra Leone, where i work, by end of trip 300,000KM. No dealership here, +++ costs to import new engines/parts.

Almost zero troubles on the trip, vehicle performed very well.

But then... I went away for two weeks. Came back and vehicle battery was flat. I jump started off another vehicle - started, but then revs started increasing without stopping and +++ black smoke coming out the backend. I cut the engine, tried once more. Same issue revs increaisng and ++ black smoke, only stopped when i cut the engine.

Had a closer look under the hood and noticed some burnt wires. Burnt wires traced back to ECU- the ECU motherboard showed obvious burn marks. Tried using a diagnostic device but couldn't read anything (presume because ECU burnt). So, I ordered a full new set of ECU, imobiliser, ignition barrel and key off donor vehicle. Installed all. Replaced all burnt wires.

Now Car turns on, all electrics work (except fuel gauge?!). Fuel lines working, pulled fuel filter all looks clean. Relays appear to work, they click when ignition on, including fuel relay, Engine cranks but doesn't turn over.

Via warning lamp (by earthing terminal 1) I am getting these codes:

Code 46: Injection correction ROM system

Code 48: GE actuator :(

Code 26: Control sleeve position sensor system

Now, have read up a lot about dreaded Code 48 and the fuel pump issues. The extra problem here is that there are no diesel specialists and import for new parts/engine is ++++.

What would you do?

a. Scrap
b. Conversion/Replace engine
c. Scream
d. Strip the fuel pump to find cause and hope that someone local can fix?
e. Something else..
