Greetings! I hope someone out there might be able to share some experience.

I have recently joined the club, with a used but relatively low mileage 2012 Pajero Sport (manual). During the recent purchase, it was noted, on the DEKRA report that there is a leak between the crankshaft and the engine. I requested Mitsubishi to do a 101 point check, and they recommended to replace the crank seal. The seller had the oil cleaned up by their mechanic, and the deal is that if it continues to leak, we cover the cost 50/50.

There are two points of view, don't fix it if it's not problematic. The second is along the lines of fix it before it causes damage.

I'm curious if it is common to need to replace this crank seal after 100 000km/10 years?

If there is a light leak/sweating, is there any benefit to delaying on the replacement, e.g. is it likely that one can get another 10-20 000km without needing to do the replacement?

I need to make a call on this in the next week or 2 if I'm going to get the dealer to come to the party and get this work done this month.

Good day mate. I have 3.2 diesel 5 speed manual 2000. Bit of an oil leak ( after 2 years) at same spot after fixing no reverse gear and replace crank shaft seal . I do get clutch shudder badly in the morning on a cold start up. Then after 15 —-20 minutes it’s all gone. I ain’t going do anything, it’s being doing this for 7 years now. It’s too expensive just to do the seal again just for it to leak again. The seal was done by a gearbox shop. I would say that the crankshaft seal area has to be built up and machined down again for the New seal. That’s removing the crankshaft. Therefore it’s too too expensive. Unless install a sleeve for the new seal. I have 3 other cars ,so it’s not important for me.
Make 100% sure that
it’s leaking at the seal. If so pay half .
