Intercooler pipes

Morning all

2006 3.2DiD LWB

A few months ago I (eventually) detected a hole in the intercooler outlet rubber pipe, just 20mm from the inlet manifold end. Fortunately at the time, I was able to trim 25mm from the pipe and still have enough slack to clamp it securely.

A 5000km trip is on the horizon in June and I'm thinking I should probably replace the entire pipe before that - it's obviously seen better days. The OEM number for that part is MR404757 and the dealers want R3735.00 for it.

However, my common sense tells me that the TWO inlet pipes to the intercooler work even harder - presumably carrying even hotter gas between the turbo and the intercooler. The OEM references for those pipes are MR481984 and MR404755. I'm too scared to get prices from the dealers, but I suppose it's safe to assume that they would be roughly the same price each. So I'm looking at a R10000.00 exercise for peace of mind.

The pipes are referenced 11756, 11755P and 11755Q in the attached picture IF I've managed to attach it correctly.

My questions are:
Has anyone had any of these pipes fail before?
Are some of the pipes more prone to failure than others? (I can find multiple [overseas] aftermarket suppliers of MR404757 [the outlet pipe] and that is the one that failed on mine.
Are these pipes available anywhere else?
Your opinion on whether to replace all three, or just the one.

Thanks in anticipation
Joe

Sorry I can't help you, but I prefer my car to run from the right side and not the dark side of the pump.

Have you tried Volks Spares and got in touch with the people who race them ? I seem to recollect they do silicon tubes and piping in various sizes, diameters, bends etc. You cut to suit your application. Who knows ?
