Chipping my Pajero?

I have a 1999 Pajero shorty ( 3 door). I would like to hear from owners who have chipped their vehicles if it was worth spending the money. Currently my Pajeros fuel consumption is around 12,5L per 100km. I was told by the specialists that this can be brought down by chipping. If you have had this done what is your fuel consumption like now? It will help to have some info before taking my Pajero to these guys. I was told my Pajero must be 2 days by these guys and the bill including the chip will be 4k.

Save yer money, or better still give it to me, I'm an orphan.
Seriously, not worth it, there is always a trade off. You will drive it very conservatory at the beginning and record better figures but after a while you revert back to your old habits. and the results go to hell. Accept that its a 3.0 liter V6 and all will be well, it is never going to be economical, no matter what you do. Around town mine is 16 to 18 liters/100 km, open road 10.5 liters/100 km. But on the long road, I drive at 110 km with the cruise on, around town its horrible, drinks petrol like Oliver Reed drank alcohol, ( for all you young ones out there, look him up, legendary hell raiser ) but I am lucky to have a company car and my bus is a weekend toy.
Or trade it it for a "gasp" diesel.
