1998 Pajero 3.5 cuts out when cold

Hi everyone

I recently bought a 1998 Pajero 3.5 with 208 000km. I had the car fully serviced before I got it. One thing that I have noticed is that when the vehicle is cold the car starts but then cuts out pretty much straight away :( . To solve this I rev the engine slightly for a bit and then car is good to go. The car runs perfectly after this :D

The mechanic that serviced the car said its not a problem its just cold. Another mechanic said there is something that can be altered to correct this. I can not for the life of me remember what he called it.

Any help with this problem. The plugs got replaced with the service, so it cant be them

Thanks
Keenan

When warm does your car labour a bit when idling with the aircon on, or the steering at full lock?

If so then your idle control valve is toast (or at least if you are very lucky, very dirty)

To get around it they can alter the idle speed, but it's not a satisfactory long term solution. Trust me :D

Thanks SimonB for the reply

The vehicel idels at about 900rpm with the aircon on and off. No sign of it labouring, it sounds the same. When the wheels are at full lock the rpms drop very slightly then rise again to the normal idel rpm.

Even after driving abut 70 odd km and the car was parked for about 3 hours it cut out after starting....

I would rather find the problem and fix it properly than do a quick fix by altering the ideling.

Thanks again
