EGR

Well I thought I had blown the manifold gasket - noise got progressively louder, fuel consumption went up and power went down (drastically)

Investigated the problem today and found that it is the EGR pipe which has a crack right through the centre - went you give it some unleaded it blows harder than the Cape Doctor - not a spot of dust anywhere in the engine compartment

So a temp solution tomorrow is to use a standard gauze bandage and some gumgum to "patch" the problem till I find time to drop the car off and have it fixed.

Anyone have any input on how important this thing is. I see lots of discussion about blanking kits???

Do I need this EGR pipe or can I blank it off?

Just read an article that claims that blanking the EGR on Pajeros can cause engine failure. Apparently it assists with cooling of the engine and without it can cause the block to crack :o
I think I'll repair it rather than run the risk.

Most americans blank the egr ( search on 4x4wire - I went through this research a month ago ) and have no problems provided the car is well maintained and in good tune. 4ePajero has also blank his egr on his 3.2 did and hasn't had any issues.

So you reckon I should blank the sucker and get it over with?
