Pajero 3.2 DID 2005 4X4 Lights plus whining noise

Sun Oct 11, 2020 9:56 am

Hi need some help. Went on a long trip Kzn to Coleberg then Krugersdopr and back to KZN. On the way just before Coleberg the 4x4 lights went off and the centre orange light started flashing, stopped switched off and then started again the lights were normal then about 10 minutes layer the same happened. This went on the whole trip. Got home and now riding around town the lights are normal, no problem. However I have now noticed that occasionally there is a whining sound from the front that comes and goes. Any ideas on what the problem can be and where can I start to look........ Thanks.

I have no solution to your problem but I'm happy to follow the post for I've got a similar issue. orange centre diff light comes on at any time, sometimes not, in town on the freeway, off-road;- no particular terrain. There is no exact pattern whatsoever.
When I stop and restart, it's dead until the next time. I haven't noticed the whirring/whining sound that you are hearing, but then, mine sounds like a rumbling train with all the dashboard rattles.

I am planning on taking it to Motobishi workshop in George, for a couple of friends have recommended Donovan as a specialist on these vehicles.
I spoke to him and his over e phone guess was that it was a problematic sensor on the control valve body. Anyway, I'm hoping someone out there has had a similar problem and did find a solution for it.

Have a great day

Hi Norman

If someone will fix the problem it will be Donovan. Have you installed the dash rattle fix? It will stop the dash rattle completely. I am here in Riversdale too if you need assistance.

Hi Norman
I had similar problem. After much replacing under warantee it transpired it was as simple as uneven tyre wear.Evidently wheel speed sensors pick up different readings if one or more tyres are worn more than others. This results in refusal to disengage 4x4 and orange light display.
Hope this was of help

Hi Alf
Thanks for your feedback. However, the tyres are all equal in terms of wear with about 80% good tread left.
I do however experience the orange light coming on while driving on the highway, around time or even on dirt, obviously, all without 4x4 disengaged. This brings my logic to a probable sensor fault? May e wrong, but need to figure it out.

Hi Danie

Waar is jy in Riversdal? Wie het die 'dashboard ratlle fix' vir jou gedoen?
Sal defnitief en baie graag daarna wil omsien. Geen sin om enigsins 'n radio in die voertuig te probeer aansit op grondapd nie...

Mooi dag
