Davidvan's Pajero - aka Scratches
Hi,

Here is some detail around my Pajero from purchase to now, will add a few posts here on some of the mods and changes to date.

Bought our Pajero (Scratches) in March 2009 as a 2001 model Gen3 with only 97000km's on the clock, he has now done mostly offroad and overlanding work and is now on 137000km's all of which is filled with good times and fond memories, and all troublefree, into some harsh areas and back again in 1 piece.

Since purchase we have added the following items:
Scratches - lots of them :-)
Dust in the Aircon (Thanks Kaokoland and Makgadikgadi)
Sand in all the carpets

And the good stuff:
Front runner bash plates - sump and transfer case (with some scars too :-))
Packing system in the rear (realised a very important item after first trip) -
500W inverter under the passenger seat
Replaced the radio and all speakers (6x9's fitted in the rear doors) and extra tweeters
Replaced std Geolanders with BFG AT's 265/75/16
Replaced interior lights with LED lights from of the 4x4 community - helps alot

Things currently in pipeline:
Replace brake disks and pads with Powerbrake
Add additional mudflaps to protect plastics and trailer from stone rash
Add new spec bumper with spots - in progress
Add nudge bar and spots - after above
Replace shocks (only injury of all travels so far is a leaking shock and engine mountings)
Add air helper springs in the rear
Add snorkel (still a maybe, not convinced done fine without 1 so far with a towel in boot for deep water crossings)

Happy travels

David

Interior LED Light - Quickest mod @ around R350
This is the quickest and easiest upgrade to do all light bulbs inside the vehicle and the parking lights for around R350 and takes 15 minutes.

I replaced all internal cabin lights and parking lights with LED’s from http://www.4x4direct.co.za/shop/index.p ... emi1r1qsm3

That was the easiest change I made and with good results.

You will need the following:

Parking Globe x 2

Front Roof Light x 3 (Updated - also will need to add a reflective material behind light like Foil, else it is only a whiter light and not much brighter, adding foil in this position adds around 30-40% more light for the front which is very welcome in this space.

Number Plate Light x 2

That should be my final setup (for now)

I have left the indicators off, they only work half the time :-)

Bash Plate - Frontrunner
I have added the Frontrunner sump and transfer case bashplates, which was a very wise investment so far, took quite a few knocks on van Zyls Pass, but still going strong. Stofpad plates weren’t around then and they do definitely look a lot nicer and got the cool factor too, still happy to have this protection.

Cheers

Inverter
How did we survive without an inverter, this item gets used and abused a lot and we have had ours installed under the front passenger seat and hooked up with inline fuse to the engine bay.

My Gen3 packing system
Packing system, makes my life so much easier…

I cannot remember where I placed this on Pajero Club (my bad), here is a link to 4x4 community for my packing system

PS you can fit 2 x 20L jerry cans in the 3rd row seat void (water preferably)

Replaced Radio
I decided to replace the radio once my CD player stopped working. Replaced with a base Pioneer radio/CD/AUX/USB front end and replaced all speakers and added tweeters in the doors. The rear doors managed to take 6x9 speakers by removing the old speaker brackets, what a difference in sound from the standard, still missing a bit of bass, but that is OK, very happy with the changes from the original.

Powerbrake
Will be replacing disks and pads on scratches this week with Power brake disk and Mintex pads. Looking forward to some more stopping power, especially when towing. (Thanks for the input from the forum on this one)..

Mud Flaps

Have got some left over 3mm rubber from a drawer system and want to make a set of mudflaps to prevent some bumper rash on the rear first and then on the front (have noticed alot of stone rash just before the rear wheels on the ridge due to alot of dirt road driving.

Any advice very welcome on the size and length of these and the material.... Will the rubber last and is it the best material to use here?

Will be sorting this out over the weekend....

Why did the chicken cross the fore-court? :D

Nice Pajero! Looks just like 4ePikanini's.
