Following on from this thread: https://www.pajeroclub.co.za/forum/view ... =55&t=6003 the report back is that the mass airflow sensor is faulty

OK, but at R5404 plus labour rate that sounds ridiculous..... I had my Paj up to the Pilansberg n back last weekend and she ran beautifully, smooth and plenty of power.
The rumble from the back (sounds like a second engine) is still there any speed over 115Km/hr. They claim the props haft and rear diff is fine "within Spec".....

At that price I am hesitant to replace it, albeit that they said to me that they'll remove it and put my old one back if there is no change.......

OK, car is back. Report back is that the ECU might not be getting the right info from the air flow sensor compared to what the exhaust sensors are reporting... Hence, the engine is not running optimally and hence might be causing the exhaust to rattle.

Going back to the dealers for them to install a new sensor, possibly even exchanging the exhaust and comparing results....

Have they checked if your catalytic converter is not maybe blocked? If the noise is linked to the exhaust that might also be in the equation.

Cats, one of the reasons they want the car for two days is that one of the items they will be doing should the new MAS still not make the exhaust go quiet, is to fit one from a 2nd hand Paj and see. Should that then make a difference, i guess its a new exhaust.....

Well, the Paj seems to be pulling fine (unless Ive just gotten used to it becoming more n more sluggish)
The consumption is sitting around 11 - 13 L/100, all depending if I'm sitting on the open road or in traffic

hi guys,
i sent my vehicle to mits due to the problem getting worse (asc on engine management lights on). the problem (sluggishness) got progressively worse. mits identified - airflow meter faulty... wanted app. R6000 for it (had stock by the way . went to scarp yard and purchased one for R1500. installed - and WOW . performance better than ever, but.. the lights still come on after a while ... read somewhere in forum au that the common rail on the older paj's does give blockage problems. i will open up, clean, and advise.... i will be gratefull if someone can advise how to remove - gasket etc.? please? Paj forever...
