I put back all the stuff that I carry around in the car, being a dedicated overlander and not my daily drive, after I got it back from the engine rebuild. Man do I carry a lot of crap!! But wait until that day that I need one of these gadgets and I left it at home, so I rather pack it ! With the two extra batteries, this excludes the aux I already have in the engine bay, I estimate the extra weight being carried around constantly before I even start packing food etc to be in the region of 100-150kg! No wonder I could only get 300000kms out of this engine!

Anyway - Done, and suddenly I have some space again in my garage!

I know the feeling - I actually threatened to weigh and list everything when we got back from our last trip and then post it on the forum with a "What of this would you leave behind?" subject line.

First you have the things that are permanently mounted (the bull bars, long range tank, 2nd battery system, spots, suspension upgrades, extra heavy tyres, water tank, storage system, ...

Then you have the removable stuff like roofrack, high lift jack, shovel, jerries, 2nd spare rim+tyre, ammo boxes, recovery kit, tent, groundsheet, mattresses, food crates, freezer, cool box, ammo boxes, compressor, ...

Then the personal stuff like clothes, cameras, binos, laptop, books, ...

And at the start you add to that food and drink + full fuel and water tank contents.

After much deliberation and advice from freinds and various forum members and weighing up the pros and cons I decided to buy skillie's 2005 DiD Pajero...

We flew up the previous Friday night at 22h45 to joburg, landed at 00h30 and promptly left back to Cape Town the same morning, with some lekker droëwors kindly left by skillie as padkos. The Car drove like a dream, very comfortable and lots of power to overtake. We arrived home Saturday afternoon at 5ish quite shattered and didn't have much time to have a look at the car, so I had a good look this weekend...

One of the first things I wanted to do was to add another finer diesel filter plus water trap after the OEM filter for some peace of mind an extra water trap. I phoned around to various filter suppliers (Donaldson, UDF, Racor, etc), and after speaking to Tim at the Durban based GUD filters technical department, I eventually settled on a GUD CF16 filter head and a GUD Z314 diesel filter which does 3-5 micron at 85% or 8 micron absolute filtration. The Z314 filter is designed for common rail large capacity truck motors, so the flow rate and filtration is more than good enough for my older generation diesel motor.

I bought a meter of 12mm fuel line and 2 barb hose adaptors to suit the filter head and some jubilee hose clamps.
I found a place on the firewall where I could remove a rubber grommet to access the back of the firewall steel sheet metal. I then drilled 2 holes to install bolts, they are then fitted though the grommet hole to act as studs to mount the filter too. I spaced the filter with two extra nuts on either stud to allow for the firewall insulation to be reinstalled.

I then took the outlet pipe from the OEM filter off the injector pump and fitted it to the inlet of the new filter, and then took the outlet of the new filter to the injection pump inlet again.

All in all cost me about R550 all in for the kit, it not a UDF filter but it works well enough for me at a 10th of the price.

Hi came home got out of my H1 and had a long look at my Pj while rolling into the house. That is about as much as I have done with the Pj today, so green when I see all the nice goodies everybody's adding to their rides.

Completed the service on my Pajero's gearbox - fresh oil and new filter. I also ordered new rubber bushes for the gearbox cross member. Will only get them in 4 weeks time from overseas. I also completed my spare wheel lifting plate (Gen 3 Pajero). I need somebody with a Gen 4 to test if it will also work on the Gen 4s.

Well I fitted an EFS 50mm suspension lift kit, through Creative Wheels and tinted my windows all round, the ride is awesome , mine ticked over to 204000km while Mabula, good for another 200 000km,

Forgot to post, so not TODAY, but a few days ago... replaced my front two original OEM shocks (KYB - saw it written on the bottom), with 2 Bilstein B6 shocks.

no change in ride harshness, but definitely feels more stable when cornering / braking.

Transplanted madman system to new Pajero, struggled with oil pressure sender, see other post.

Fitted new facet (cube) solid state fuel pump for front runner long range tank, and rewired the crappy toggle switch as fitted under steering wheel by front runner. Checked all the jubilee clamps to piping and tank breathers and neatened them all up. Opened old facet pump up, cleaned & serviced the plunger and one way valve and got working again--> kept for a spare.

Fitted a drop lock pin towhitch I had lying around.

This week been busy on the old lady.
Sorted out my wiring by my battery and relocated 4 relays. Replaced Front and back brake pads. Reconditioned the clutch slave cylinder. Replaced Front and back shocks with Bilstein shocks. Replaced rear coil springs with iron man 40mm springs. Leveled the front by tightening up the torsion bars. Full service incl spark plugs. Ended up the week by taking her for wheel alignment and wheel balancing.

Next up I need to sort out the induction pipe for my Lexus v8 into the std Pajero airbox.
