reversed into electric gate because my mind was running in a bad way
flat battery
slight flu
but.......
Freek Jnr from mitspro saved my bum. I'm sending him a gift as soon as I get back from Rhodes.
I phoned in a despairing mood to see if there was a way to do the timing without taking the timing gear case off.
He gave me instructions (will follow at some stage) and I set it. Still no start. Turned the crank 360 degrees and reset the cams as per Freek's instructions. Flat battery. Charge up. Start. Eureka.
Now to bolt back all the ancillaries.

After it started it gave an engine check light at full throttle over 3000rpm.
Left it at Mitsu and they scanned an overboost error.
The timing was out by a couple of teeth.
They reset the timing and checked the tappets.
R1077 later I'm good as new.
Will update regarding the smoking.

Interesting... I wonder why the waste gate didn't "vent" the excess pressure? Maybe there is still something not 100% right with the waste gate, but it normally never gets to the point that it needs to "vent" any excess pressure?4ePikanini wrote:Right

I suspect the valve timing creating excess combustion pressure to enter the intake allowing the boost sensor to pick higher boost than allowed.
Alternatively the intake valve may have been open while the piston is heading for compression creating extra pressure paired with the turbo boost.
I don't think there was (is) anything wrong with the wastegate.
My trouble was with timing.

So I assume the boost sensor is in the intake? I'm just wondering what could all cause the overboost condition... Wastegate malfunction and incorrect timing?
So in my situation, if the timing (which I assume is 100% mechanical) is correct, is there anything else that could increase intake pressure?

There is a non return valve on my intake manifold that runs a pipe to a sensor by the fuel filter.
I am no expert so can only theorise that overboost can be due to
- wastegate malfunction
- boost sensor malfunction
- incorrect timing as discussed
- valve clearances set wrong allowing compression stroke or combustion to feed back into intake causing excessive pressure
I have learned that the Di-D tries to boost at 19psi max and will log an overboost at 21psi.
