PCV Question
After seeing this thread

http://www.newtriton.net/phpbb/viewtopi ... =clean+egr

I want to clean my intake system (260'000km demands it I suppose) but also prevent future buildup. My EGR is already blocked so I just need to sort out the PCV.

Is simple atmosphere venting with a filter a solution? I was under the (possibly wrongful) impression that the pcv needs some suction to prevent excessive oil usage. Then again I suppose there is no vacuum at low revs with a diesel.

Thoughts?

Re: PCV Question
I was taught that this little bit of magic helps to vent the crank case from blow past by the rings and that it reduces carbon build up and condensation in the crank case, that is on a petrol but I don't see much different on a diesel except that it could have more blow past due to the high compression.

On one of my turbo toys I have a condensation tank with a filter on as it is an open motor and have had no drama with it in this set up but then the oil gets changed every 7k.

Personally I would clean and reinstate it. The buildup of gunge would indicate that it has worked.

Do a web search on "oil catch can".
