Hi All!

I have just bought a 1998 Blister 3.5L LWB Automatic, without an Owners Manual and incomplete service book - stopped at 191,000km. From reading other entries from our club and 4x4 Offroad, it appeared to me that maybe the guys with the manuals/knowledge can assist us without? So assuming everyone agrees, here goes; [I suggest for ease of reference and possibly to build an archive, could we give each question a unique number - following the last entry]

Question 1.
I was cleaning around the rear most seats and discovered on the right hand side what looks like a radiator in a plastic housing. What is it and its function?

Question 2.
Is the key encoded as with Gen 3 Pajeros? I only got 1 key + remote, thus need to know if I can just cut a spare or whether I need to go to the "Stealers" and can the remote can be bought from the local electronic places that sells remotes?s

Not Pajero related - If one does not carry a heavy load most times, what is the minimum recommended pressure one should have in the Firestone Coilrite Airlifters

Is it normal to have to apply so much force to "blow" the horn and is it normal that the contact is in the middle of steering wheel only?

Could we have perhaps in MS Excel, having the service intervals especially after 100,000Kms, including what is included for Service A, B and C? Could we also have recommendations/Tips what experience has taught what should be replaced/done?

Question 1.

Answer 1.

This is the intake for the rear aircon unit.

Question 2.
Is the key encoded as with Gen 3 Pajeros? I only got 1 key + remote, thus need to know if I can just cut a spare or whether I need to go to the "Stealers" and can the remote can be bought from the local electronic places that sells remotes?s
Answer 2.

The key is not encoded (or at least on the samcor models), so you should be able to cut a spare, but you have to buy the remote from the dealers and take the original with you.

Question 4.
Is it normal to have to apply so much force to "blow" the horn and is it normal that the contact is in the middle of steering wheel only?

You can take the steering wheel cover off and adjust the horn sensitivity by bending the contacts

Question 5.

The service intervals don't change after 100000km. Always ABACABAC, service every 10000km for petrol, with cambelt every 100000km. I can scan my owners manaual at some stage for the checklist

I will definitely be able to resolve the horn issue. Discovered the compressor setup today whilst busy cleaning the van from all the gravel dust. Kindly do scan the maintenance info?

At 218,000km I have been advised to consider replacing;
- Aircon Belt
- P/Steering Belt
- Alternator Belt
- Timing(Camshaft) Belt - The dealer could not confirm whether or not it had been done at 200,000km
- Spark Plugs
- Water Pump
- Thermostat
- Crank Bolt
- Crank Seals (Front and Back)
- Camshaft seals
- Tension Roller
- Idle Roller
- Flywheel bearing
- Spider kits (universals)

Can I have a comment on this please?

I need to confirm that the second row of seats (2 off) can only have its back rest flipped forward, as opposed to flipping the seat and back rest forward ? (I had noticed the sliding rails which appears fixed)

The Blister Fender actually did have an encoded ignition key, so getting a duplicate key normally is a bit of a pain.

Answer:
The seat squabs do slide forward and tumble in addition to the back rests that can flip down. If you flip the back rest down with some force, it should release the catch for the squab. I seem to remember that there was another catch that can be used to release the squab even if the back rest is not folded. I think it was a little lever close to the base where the back rest pivots, but I am not sure; I sold my last Gen 2 some years ago.
