Re: Van Zyls Springs, shocks and spacers?
OK so here are a few pics and dimensions and overall update from my side.

The spacers I got frm skillie (Thanks for this) are for the front as per below pics, the holes are slighly larger and can result in offset which may affect wheel alignment and tyre wear potentially (will still try them in any event :-)), but perfect to work from and definately finalise a prototype which can be used for all.

Specs are as follows:

Plate thickness 6mm
flat plate on top and bottom shaped (can be round plates top and bottom see diameters below)
Inner diameter is 73mm
Outer diameter is 127mm (will finalise once we have a prototype made up and tested)
Overall spacer height is 32mm, which may give a rather large lift (+- 55 to 64mm - still TBC with testing), I am happy with this as I am down 15mm since the replacement bar has been installed so takes me back to overall +-50mm effective lift.

Measuring the rear suspension the system geometry calculation should be 2.47 so for every 10mm you add you will effectively add 24.7mm, so a 20mm spacer should result in a 49,4mm lift, this is between the sping and the body, not between the body and the spring housing which is slightly different, again will confirm once tested.

Met with Uys and was really very helpful and just waiting for pricing, unfortunately didn't have time to meet with Cloyd so will make a plan here still, then Mikem next week and details from 4ePikanini then we should have 4 options available for suspension spacers.

I must say I was very impressed with Uys and his products. He has some great bash plates for the Pajero's Gen3 and 4

Hoping we can finalise in the next 2 weeks, work dependant. December was a disaster so nothing much happened on this topic.

Would be nice to setup a standard for the spacers and I would suggest a effective height of 50mm (not spacer size - just effective lift) for front and rear, please can you add your thoughts and comments on this one.

Re: Van Zyls Springs, shocks and spacers?
After spending the last 2 days dissassembling and reassembling numerous times to try out DIY spacers I can say with confidence that I'd rather have a suspension shop install the fronts as anything other than stock needs some heavy duty spring compressors to make space to get the spacer in.

My standard spring compressors look like bananas after I'm done.

Note : Make it very apparent to the suspension shop to tighten the control arm and shock bolts once the suspension supports the weight of the car otherwise you will have the bushes under constant stress and they will fail prematurely!
Re: Van Zyls Springs, shocks and spacers?
Visited Uys this morning and he measured my Gen4. He is confident that the front spacers will be identical to the Gen3's, and almost sure that the rear ones will be as well. Didnt have enough time to remove the rear coils to measure rear, but since the gen3 and gen4 suspensions are basically the same, the chances are good that the spacers should be the same as well.

David, once we have a prototype of the spacers we will just have to try them out on the gen4.

Re: Van Zyls Springs, shocks and spacers?
Just an update here, got some more details from Andre Benson with "Swart Skaap" and below are some pics of his suspension spacers.

Waiting for costing from Uys on his spacers and Mikem and will try Lynx as well as suggested by Gemaskerde Tuinvurk.

Speaking to a few people it appears that effective 40mm lift from standard is recommended

Re: Van Zyls Springs, shocks and spacers?
what is the cost of those spacers? Are the galvanised/powder coated after fabrication?

I'd like to get an effective 50mm lift.

Re: Van Zyls Springs, shocks and spacers?
Marius,

As per Andre they were powder coated and cost R1800 for all 4 installed, BUT he did this through SA4x4store which has had alot of bad publicity and alot of issues post this installation - see posts on the 4x4community on this one.

Re: Van Zyls Springs, shocks and spacers?
Will a spacer increase the ground clearance between the engine (engine bash plate) and the ground?
Davidvan
Re: Van Zyls Springs, shocks and spacers?
Hi Jaco,

The Gen3 and 4 Pajero has independant suspension which should result in increasing this clearance. As noticed with a 15mm drop when adding my replacement bumper at the bashplate, the same should be true on increasing the height with the spacer. This is not true of non independant suspension 4x4, which will remain with the same clearance to say the diff for instance, and only tyre size increase will result in height gain.

OK so that is the theory and how I understand it on this one.
Re: Van Zyls Springs, shocks and spacers?
Visited Charles at Lynx 4x4 yesterday. He is a great guy - we ended up chatting about a lot of the mods Im planning at the moment.

On the spacers, he seemed keen to help but was worried about one thing (I will try explain with my limited knowledge of suspensions), although we might have covered it here on the forums somewhere: in the past they had issues with spacer lifts, when in the situation where the wheel is fully extended (full droop/lower bump stop?), and steering is locked to one side, the side shafts pull out of the diff. In those cases he has had to manufacture longer side shafts.

Has anyone looked into this?

In the mean time, he said he would start doing some research, and get back to me with a quote.
